resigning

As the person running this League I think that resigning from a game should be frowned on. Any player doing so will receive no points for that game and his opponent will receive 12 points.

Has any other player have an opinion on this matter?

Did the other players give you an explanation of why he resigned. I saw one of the games and it was pretty close.

My suggestion would be to remove him from the comp if there is a good reason and just allow players to play all of their remaining games immediately?

Oof, that's a bit draconian , isn't it? Giving 0/12 points seems more than fair.
I've rarely seen resignations, but have had good players do so when the situation really is hopeless. I'm the type who likes to fight on to the last man, but others see it as a waste of time to play a game that seems lost. Let's support plurality rather than control the way people play!

Did you read the whole sentence, "My suggestion would be to remove him from the comp if there is a good reason"

If there is a good reason. Maybe he has problems with the computer, he may have job commitments and so does not wish to continue.

It has happened in other comps in the past.

I have no problem with such a rule for resigning. Other than that 14 points is the maximum amount. ;)

I agree with 12 points for opponent and 0 for resigner.

Yes I did.
I felt the responses in general were over the top and might cause offense. To me, there was a whiff of condemnation and exclusion. If I read mcpeake's message correctly, perhaps I was not entirely wrong.

You've "tuted" me, which is a little condescending, so I feel a brief explanation is in order.
As a pluralist living in an age of ever-increasing pressure to censor behaviour that doesn't fit expected patterns, things that may appear minor to most often seem to me to be harsh. I think a pm to the player(s) concerned to enquire would have been best. Otherwise it may all look like a public castigation (which i'm sure is not what steve meant, but we are sensitive creatures). Also, I don't understand why a player cannot resign if he wants to.
But I realise i'm in the minority and most will likely view many of my posts as 'fussy' or over-philosophical.

Still, in the 'West' I feel there is still room for eccentricity and allowing everyday minor events to reflect larger ethical issues. For while our popular culture displays right and wrong in huge brushstrokes of murderers and heroes, it is in our daily interaction with one another that we make the world.

OK let’s get things sorted out; I started this league so we can have fun not to upset people. But the whole idea of this league is that we are all in the same time zone or within 2 hours so we can have fast games. Not taking three weeks to finish your first game and then resigning on two more. Maybe I should have made it more clearly on my thoughts on copping out on a game and I will take the rap for that.

To be fair to all players everyone will receive 12p for their game that was against or would have been against Joe mcpeake, apart from Tiavals: Later Visgothic 14p

I apologize to Joe if I have upset him and hope he accepts my apology

Daniel you were wrong, fact and so was I to be condescending, I should have been more brutal:) Especially as you look to have a jump on me in our little game.

Steve you have no real reason to apologize. It just seems there is a bit of a communication breakdown that is all. In comps I have played in prob about 3000+ games now. I believe there has been 2 people who have resigned. It is something you do not take into consideration because it is so rare. I haven't in the 2 comps I am running. It is just unfortunate that is all and I noticed you had pmd him as well.

All I can say is hopefully he is OK and if I have offended him in any way then I too must apologize but if it had been my comp, I would have prob gone hunting for him LOL
