Shooting enemy obscured by impassable terrain

Post by the_iron_duke »

In one of my multiplayer D.A.G. games I've noticed my archers can shoot enemy that are on the same level but obscured behind impassable "mountain-looking" terrain hexes. Surely, this shouldn't be possible. If the impassable hexes were a gentle or steep hill the enemy would be obscured and unshootable at.

Despite how the impassable hex sides are displayed, they have no effect on visibility. If you think of them as equivalent impassable water/river hexsides they will make more sense.

Hmm, it's a bit odd since graphically the impassable hexes look much bigger and more visually imposing than gentle hills, which do block missile fire. You could change the hex's graphics to something more suitable to the terrain's attributes in the rules, maybe boiling lava. Or there could be a new rule for impassable that you can fire over, like water/river, and impassable mountain/rugged that you can't.

It depends on what the definition of what "impassable" is - it's a bit vague and metaphysical to me. Are the impassable hexes mesa-type formations? I need to understand the geology.

They represent incipient volcanic activity and it is recommended that your troops stand at least three hexes away with their umbrellas up!
