Some thoughts, wishes, and impressions
ALCON
First of all, BA is a great game. I played the PC demo last month and at first I didn't care for the the game, I thought it was to basic and a bit campy. After a few weeks with my new Ipad3, I said "why not" and got BA on that platform, soon after my mind was changed and I quickly got all the additional scenarios.
What this game is not; Third Reich, War in the Pacific, or any other detailed board or PC game. What this game is; it is a simple but effective engine that makes for a quick and fun game. Back to the engine, I can tell that a lot of what is going on is under the hood and makes the players life easier.. Easier leads to more fun. As someone who play tests (PC/Ipad) and designs board wargames, I feel that this engine is a gold mine for what it is and what it can be.
I will agree with others, some of the scenarios are not well balanced in the MP arena, however I do not see that as an issue but a challenge. As for the MG connected campaign issue some have had; yea at first I did not like it, however after having my saved games vanish (when I installed the 2.02 beta) I replayed it knowing that each unit saved would help me in later scenarios. Once again it was fun to replay.. In fact the later scenarios are almost too easy with the amount of units I had (No unit losses until the Nijmegen bridge seizure, and even in that one I lost 2 units). I did save each game individually in case I wanted to play just one of the MG scenarios by its self.
Going back to the gold mine comment; as shown by the downloadable Great War Scenarios (btw thanks, huge GW buff here), most 20th Century conflicts could use this engine. With this said; some ideas/wishes
- WWII
-- Pacific
-- Italy (awaiting that Ortona scenario)
-- Russian Front
WWI
- The Kaiser's Offensive
- Somme
- All of the battles at Ypres
- Vimy
- Caporetto
- Gallipoli (invasion and the first days only)
- Verdun
- Battles of the 100 days
Other Conflicts:
since I do knot know what the engine can handle, I wont even mention a conflict that had a huge air element. I like the minimal role air and OBA plays in the game and things like missiles and air-mobile warfare may be too much of a stretch for the engine. It also may detract from the enjoyment of the game.
Some ideas...
- Falklands
- Korea
- Golan Heights (73)
Looking at this I may just get the PC version again and try my had at making some of the ones I mentioned. Too bad the demo does not have the editor..
Game play wishes..
- Combining units
- Pass thru a friendly unit at a cost
- Defensive improvement as a building goes to rubble (it may do this already)
- Ability to see LOS from any hex, not just the ones where you have a unit.
Well I droned on enough... Well done devs!

Re: Some thoughts, wishes, and impressions
Thanks for the feedback. It's always useful to know what people think about the various game facets. You are correct that there are a ton of theatres we could use the engine for - it's tough for us to choose to be honest!

I like the "Sgt Rock" cartoon book approach about it. It has a certain flavor that you will not find in other games.
Re: Some thoughts, wishes, and impressions

Havent thought about that comic since I was a kid. Thanks

Re: Some thoughts, wishes, and impressions
nope...but a great movie as you say.
The movie I'm thinking of is not a WWII war movie...but it does have lots of shooting in it.

How does this game look on the iPad 3?
I pick mines up on the 1st of July. Currently playing on the iPad first generation now.
*Edit*
In all honesty this game reminds me alot of R.U.S.E (from Ubisoft)
Except for the Ruse cards. If they were to launch it onto the iOS, this would had been it.
I LOVE that game.

Re: Some thoughts, wishes, and impressions
Hi - glad you like the GW mod. I'm a GW buff too (obviously!) and also made a GW mod for Close Combat. I'm keen on doing more and my list is very similar to yours (I would do the whole of the Battle of Arras and not just Vimy - my wifes great uncle died on the first day of the battle). Also thinking about French forces - Verdun, Chemin des dames etc and have even thought about early war - not sure how to do Cavalry but I think it would be possible. Imagine Mons in all its glory. Or how about Palestine and Lawrence of Arabia?!? I have lots of ideas but am short on time really so if you do buy the pc version and want to collaborate on campaigns/mods let me know.iprop wrote: Going back to the gold mine comment; as shown by the downloadable Great War Scenarios (btw thanks, huge GW buff here), most 20th Century conflicts could use this engine. This game, along with Imperial Galactica 2 & Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 - jeesh, my mind is all over the place.
