But I guess the question at the heart of this is shouldn't we be able to have true force selection, ie. No freebies or compulsory choices? Isn't it softening the impact of force selection in, for example, Meeting Engagement Redux if both sides get 4 compulsory scouts for free? Please let me make my own decisions, even if they might be unwise, so two sides can genuinely look and behave differently...

Taking Winter Village as example:
Initial points: 1500 to both sides
Allied get also for free:
- 1 engineer 45
- 2 scouts 2 x 42 = 84
- 1 M3 41
Total value 170
The german get also for free
- 2 Tigers 2 x 160 = 320
- 3 Marder 3 x 75 = 225
- 2 Stug G 2 x 105 = 105
Total value 755
So, in fact, the allied get 1500 + 170 = 1670
and the german 1500 + 755 = 2255
To deal with the Panthers and Tiger you need to have more units as no allied unit can have an equal duel with these tanks, so the logical would be that the allied has more points than the german.
