This one came up recently, and I'm not sure I've got a grasp of how it works, so here goes -
A Tercio has an enemy BG parallel with it's side and at long range, but behind a line extending it's front edge. The shot sleeves can fire to the side, treating the side edge as if it were the front edge, happy with it so far.
The arc of fire bit says that a base can shoot up to 2 base widths to the side at long range, but in the case of the Tercio shot sleeves does that mean two base widths of 40mm each, being the standard base width size, or does it mean two base widths of 20mm each, being the standard base depth size treated as the front edge for firing in these cases ?

Two bases widths of 40mm. 20mm is the base "depth".

Re: Arc of fire - Tercios to the side
RBS posted on the a while back. If i new how to search i would point to it.
But essetentially he said the width counts as the front for measuring. So a properly based 15mm figure has a 20mm arc for base widths when shooting out its side of a tercio.
Where he gets this from is not entirely clear.
There is a reference to shooting edge is front edge for this purpose on p 108

Hi Dan,
I clarified this with Richard as did others before Godendag this year and he confirmed that the arc was 40mm as a base width. His answer clarifying this on the forum is below.

Thus an early or later Tercios firing at long range to the side has an arc of 80mm.

Thanks for the replies, I actually remember reading that linked thread because I noted the target priority bit but obviously completely missed the bit about firing arc

Nope. See the thread Don linked.hazelbark wrote:RBS posted on the a while back. If i new how to search i would point to it.

What you are probably thinking of is the thread in which I clarified that a later tercio can shoot sideways with 3 bases.

Would be nice to collect these in a file somewhere. Right now it's kind of "I heard Richard agreed something like that in a thread I can't find on the slitherine BB."rbodleyscott wrote:Nope. Actually I think i also conflated the directly ahead 20mm. With the arc of base widths.
Directly ahead for prioritization is the width of its "new side front" ?
