How many core units are allowed?

Post by the_iron_duke »

I want to re-start the main vanilla Panzer Corps campaign after losing a few months ago. I like to structure my army along vaguely historical organisational lines so I want to plan ahead for the game.

So, my question is how many core units are one allowed throughout the game? Does the number increase as one progresses through the game?

Information appreciated, thanks.

It's set by the scenario. One may be ten, another 20. You don't lose any units that you can't use though - they just remain in the reserve until a later scenario.

Okay, been looking through the campaigns and some of the individual scenarios and counting core units. Hopefully I've pulled out some useful numbers. Here are my findings.

- the number of core units in the first scenario of each of the four main campaigns are:

1939 - 16
1941 - 28
1943w - 31
1943e - 31

- the final USA single scenario has 35 core units

- the first few scenarios of the game allow the following amounts of core units:

Poland - 16
Norway - 18
Low Countries - 22
France - 24
Greece - 12 (sic)
Sealion '40 - 26

Conclusions: the number of core units increases gradually from an initial 16 then slows after around the 30 mark, peaking around 35. There may be individual scenarios (like Greece) where fewer are allowed.

Please correct me if I've got this wrong (I obtained my results from targeted sampling and my conclusions are inferred).

You're not wrong but remember the number can vary from one scenario to the next. It's likely all the scenarios in a DLC or year will have a similar number but it's possible they could have 16 in one and then 10 in the next. It all depends on the scenario and it's purpose in the campaign.

Thanks for the information. I have a reasonable idea of how I'll develop my army roster now but am also aware that the number of core units can go down as well as up, even if there is a general trend for upward growth.
