Battle of Verona 489 AD

Post by omarquatar »

The second battle in the "Theodoric against Odoacer" project, by frankpowerful and stockwellpete. Odoacer was entrenched between the walls of Verona and the river Adige, but his troops' morale was shaken and the Ostrogoths were able to beat him again.

An exciting battle with more than acceptable balance. In the game I played the Ostrogoths must roll the Barbarian's left flank before the latters' right creams the Ostro left. This is the final position marking the Ostrogoth victory. Once the Barbarian left collapsed, the Ostrogoths were in the process of trying to shore up their own chewed up left flank. Thanks for the scenario. Very enjoyable.

glad you enjoyed it...
odoacer has the choice to stay behind the ditch or counterattack with the dreaded Heruls... a draw or an undecided battle should equate a defeat for theoderic, therefore he has to attack at all costs

At first sight, one would think Theodoric has to drastically refuse his left flank and concentrate (fast!) on moving his right wing. But refusing the left wing too far back is also dangerous. Very interesting "dynamic tension" there.
