Decisive Victory in Moscow 41?

Post by wvWestwv »

Played through this(moscow 41) a few times and am having a lot of trouble getting a decisive victory. I've altered my deployment strategy a couple times, but the weather combined with the muddy conditions leave me slogging along at a snails pace when I need to be advancing.

Can someone who has gained a Decisive Victory on this map offer any tips? It seems as if there may be a specific strategy that would work but I'm having trouble figuring it out.
Paratroops? Specific equipment? Also, is Moscow easier to take before Kiev because of the weather?

Thanks in advance for any help.

With a bit of luck it's doable. I missed DV by one turn, actually taking the last objective with a unit out of ammo but a Soviet counterattack robbed me of DV. However I recommend to continue playing and getting DV on Moscow 43 for two reasons: 1) it is easier because you have better tanks and more experience and 2) you need as much experience as possible for your panzers for US scenarios. Going to US straight from Moscow 41 is going to give you a lot of trouble as you need 3 stars Panthers and Tigers in order to survive the ridiculous amount of American tanks.

You would also want to play Kiev for that reason: more scenarios => more experience.

That's the thing. Every time(3 times now) I've played the map I have been able to achieve victory on the 15th turn(14 being the goal) but between the mud and the distance needed covered, that decisive victory is just out of reach. It seems to me that the weather has been fairly consistent each play through with an alternation of rain/mud with a clear day between. Because of that I figure there is an intended strategy for dealing with this scenario.

Are you saying that I should forget about the D.V. and just play the map to the finish? Perhaps that is the answer; I refuse to cheat and I can't see myself doing this map another 3 times just trying to figure it out. Incidentally, I was a panzer general player and at one point I used the console to boost my units... it ruined the game for me and subsequently I've sworn off cheating for the bulk of my gaming career.

Thanks for the response.
