Crossbow BG and protected Shot POA.

Post by Rekila »

Can a MF BG with crossbow in an enclosed field (i.e. protected) claim the +POA against mounted in Impact/melee? For what is said on page 125 I understand it can but at the same time found the definition of Shot in page 25 confusing as it doesn’t include Crossbow.

No.

The POA is only for Protected _Shot_. Since Cb aren't Shot they don't get the POA.

Yes, "Shot" are specifically Foot with firearms. Crossbowmen in an enclosed field are Protected Foot, but not Protected Shot. They will not get the + POA vs Mounted that Protected Shot get, but mounted troops fighting them will not get any POA that is negated by Protected Foot, such as Pistol at Impact.

But the pistol POA is negated by protected shot not protected foot, the same in all other cases. So what are the advantages of protected foot?

Possibly none.

We made a design decision that the "new" techologies would be favoured over obsolete technologies. (But the obsolete technologies are really really cheap in the points system).

Let's face it, at 4 points each MF crossbowmen shouldn't be that great. They are a hell of a lot better in infantry close combat, though, than they would be in FOGAM.

True, but not good enough to crush those dammed French gendarmes ( only fragmented them!) and I need all dead, right now!

The only benefit for Protected Foot is that mounted do not get a POA against protected medium foot in the open.

For example MF Bowmen in the same bg as Pike.
