iPad save MP

Post by enric »

  • The new button for save is behind the tool button.
  • I don't see the difference between the old Save and exit and the new save, in both cases you go to: Save… can continue later" (behind)

On one of the scenarios (I do not remember the name, and there is not a way to know while playing) says: "Most VPS at the end wins : 1/7", but I've a Flag and my opponent none, all others flags are blue with an ?. Should not say 1/0?.

I received:
We noticed you have downloaded some turns multiple times. If you are having any technical issues please report them to at http://www.slitherine.com/forum.
We'll do our best to resolve any issues and get you up and running ASAP.
I'm assuming that this is for the iPad server testing because on the normal server I do not receive this for long now.

The things I do in the iPad revisions are:
  • Save a MP and reload later.
  • Play agains myself.
  • Surrender a game agains myself.

1/7 is correct as you have 1 out of 7.

7 is the total - not the number your opponent has.

I'll need the server team to look in tot eh warning message you received.

1/7 is correct as you have 1 out of 7.
But is confusing Pip, because in many others scenarios it do not work like this. i.e. Along the Road, "Capture and hold VP owed flags/opponent flags". I think the same criteria should be applied in all scenarios.

The logical one seems to be "my flags/opponent flags" as in that way you know how many flags has the enemy. In the other case you know that you have 3 of seven but are you winning? how many flags has the opponent?

Hi enric,
I checked in the logs and yes, it is from the test server. So no problem at all about it! :)

I'll take a look at it. It's fairly easy to change if it is inconsistent with the other missions that work this way.

Force selection
About he unbalanced issue that has been already posted.
  • When choosing a force, a suggestion will be offering pre-formated teams to be chosen (provided by the scenario) and the rest of points could be free unit election. So you can add a Panther o a Tiger but not make a team based on panther and tigers.
  • - A previous look at the map will help to decide choosing forces. If the maps are not random, you must play some times agains yourself prior to decide the forces, or you are choosing blind.
  • The scenario should show the points you used and the points used by your opponent, this will help to evaluate the opponent force (If you see 3 panthers and 2 tigers, knowing the total points spent by your opponent you can assume, for example, how much infantry could him have.

I've been grabbing games all morning, so I guess it must have been transient?

I'm going to have to guess it is a local issue. I just uploaded a turn.

Have you re-tried, or just left the first upload attempt running?

And to answer your very first post, there is no difference with the new button, it's just that most players didn't seem to realise they could save a turn partway through :).

Sure, you know my opinion on several windows and in the distribution of options and of the interface in general.

I retried several times, even the server tell me that it knows that I tried to send the turn etc., one hour later I tried again and… maybe it has downloaded, I'm not sure, will see when my opponent send the turn if I lost or not my moves.

On the reporting we use x / y to show what you have out of the max.

We use x : y to show your score compared to an opponent and this should be consistent. If you don't see this let me know.

The new beta seems ok.
  • Will be nice (maybe it's already in your plans) to have different maps-force selection in different period. (Blitzkrieg France, Western desert, etc. where no always can the german get 3 Panthers and a couple of Tigers.) or as mentioned before pre formatted teams, and you choose one.
  • I agree with GottaLove88s
if play ran through force selection AND make first move immediately afterwards
    .

you're right, but as I stated before, all previous scenarios I checked, show X/Y where X is what you have and Y what your opponent have.

We definitely plan to increase the number of maps with forces on them - we couldn't just redo all the existing ones for various reasons, but mainly because the map layouts were usually tweaked somewhat to accomodate the new forces.

I'm not sure it would be possible to do the first move immediately after force selection, as the selection is done in the same order as the turns, and we can't let you move on a map where the opponent hasn't chosen their forces, as their forces are not there, and so we wouldn't know if some unplaced unit on the other side should be shooting at you.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers

Another thing, Pip, the beta is still generating the following tag errors in error.log
------
UNKNOWN TAGS IN: CONFIG/SYSTEM.TXT
Unknown Tag: MOVIEMODE
Unknown Tag: DYNAMICENV
Unknown Tag: LAYOUTKILLSENEMYX,
END: CONFIG/SYSTEM.TXT

When choosing multiplayer: String error, Missing string, IDS_CAMPAIGN:NAME (only in debug mode).

Ah. I don't want to change the data set for this update at this point, but I will try and fix them for sure for the next one.

Some compared scenarios.
  • I compared several MP scenarios, in every case:
  • the allied received more point in forces that the german
  • the german has 3 o less in total of Panther and Tigers (always is the first Tiger)
  • the force is a equilibrate force: transport, light tanks, SP, tanks, etc.
All remix scenarios played (always as Allied) the opponent has chosen a lot of Panthers and Tigers, (if you can choose, you choose these big ones).
I'm the feeling that like this, many will open challenges as german… and maybe few accept to be allied.

One of the remix games is a big map where the allied can not buy transports being obliged to move his infantry by foot, is odd to have a big mechanized force with full of tanks and the infantry in foot. If you can move fast your infantry and be the first to reach some targets, then the Panthers and Tigers must show his nose and advance to take these positions, and if the german has few infantry (because has spent all his money in these big tanks) then you have a possibility.

Just my opinion.
