New Sound Bytes for weather.
My friend that just bought the game requested that there be a sound byte added for weather effects. Such as the sound of rain at the onset of a turn to signify it is raining. Blwoing wind sound for snow. Etc.

Very good ! I used this for my old John Tillers Campaign series mods - I hope we can hear this feature in future version - a forground snow or rain animation or desert storm are also very welcome.

It should be added for Africa Corps and attached to specific types of hex terrain.
When in the hex you hear full volume, when adjacent you hear 30%
For Africa Corps we could have sand storm.
It would be a good way to get feedback before implementing it completely into Allied Corps.

IMO, it wouldn't work well. It would sound dull and repetitive after some time of playing.
It's only a good idea on paper.

That's why I said specific type of hexes. They would be an addition.
You may only have three or 4 of them on a scenario map.
Your thinking all desert hexes would have the sound.

razz, IMO, it doesn't matter if it's three or four sounds for weather or tile related, it would sound tiresome after a few games.
You would waste precious resources, for something that is more a showoff than anything really useful for playing.

............like different weather zones on the same mapVPaulus wrote: You would waste precious resources, for something that is more a showoff than anything really useful for playing........

No, that's different. That could enhance the gameplay and it would not only be cosmetic.chris10 wrote:............like different weather zones on the same map
This might sound strange coming from someone who made a cosmetic sound mod, I admit.
But I think I have a good idea how this would work in terms of sound and how would bring a saturation and at the sometime it might sound a little cacophony.
The game, IMO, doesn't need much more sounds besides UI sounds, moving and attacking sounds or music.
I think Panzer Corps is a good example of how a great graphical and sound balance can be achieved in a game. I'm not saying that can't be improved... but we mustn't disturb the balance.
My only problem with the vanilla sounds is that they sound to flat. That was my motivation to made the sound mod, to improve the quality of the sounds.

ah.. come on Von Paulus. People like Ear Candy.
This feature worked fine in Sudden Strike. Remember it is not for every map nor every hex. You can only hear it when you are in the hex or next to it.
You would hear this sound allot less often than tanks or troops moving. So, I do not see how you can get tired of it.
Having a few mud hexes to go through on a map would be great. Right now when the whole map is muddy it takes forever to move.

razz, that's the point, it works well in a RT game like Sudden Strike. Not in a TB....
Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
I really have to disagree with it being tiresome. It would be just helpful in knowing if you can use your planes or not. Cannot repeat how many times I have flown a plane over a target to learn they CAN'T bomb it. If I heard the pitter patter of rain before my turn, I would certainly know what is up from the get go. I see this as a sound cue, not an annoyance. In fact, if nothing was heard for both the "clear/cloudy turns" I would be going "business as usual."
I think monotonous is clicking your plane on every rainy turn to go bomb just to find out the weather says, "NO." That gets real old fast. If I heard rain, the first thing I would do on my turn is think no planes and get them to an airfield.

Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
I might also add that you can make it an option to turn off and on.
Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
Don't take me wrong, but you should check the weather conditions before you fly. Don't blame the game for that.
Anyway it's just my opinion.

Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
The addictive quality of the game does not lend to looking at the weather window as a first off actually, especially when it said it would be clear on the previous turn and it turns out that 20% chance happened.

Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
The fact that your units can only see one hex now, should give it away, though.
Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
As stated before the addictive quality of the game has your mind focused on the air quite forward in your mind. To know your airplanes are grounded by a sound would go a long way.
I might also say that having a fuel warning similar to The Road Warriors car "going off" would be also helpful when it is the last turn to save your airplane that was forgotten in a corner of the map.

Re: New Sound Bytes for weather.
There is an option 'Unmoved units warning' that sort of does this. It will pop up a box if there are any units that you have not moved (or set to 'sleep') when you click the end turn button. It gets old really quick and players got sick of it, which is why it was made optional. When you have trained yourself to check everything (I use the N = Next unit key) it can be turned off again.Zuxius wrote:I might also say that having a fuel warning similar to The Road Warriors car "going off" would be also helpful when it is the last turn to save your airplane that was forgotten in a corner of the map

Weather sounds and effects were part of Panzer General 3D. I really liked it. It brings you further into the game and is a helpful reminder when your using your forces to attack certain equipment on certain hexes. PG 3D even had lightning flashes during stormy weather.
