I like the start of this scenario, especially the Maus from Poznan. I would like it if we could deploy far more units. I think the limit should be raised. I keep getting SE units and captured equipment that is better disbanded so I can use the prestige, especially since I can only deploy so few units. With the increasingly overwhelming Soviets, I would be tempted to have more, even inexperienced units. I don't think it would be much easier. You would have to decide between more units with less experience, or fewer units well supported. Looking forward to finishing this fight!

Breslau
Starting prestige 4400
Ending prestige 1700
Marginal victory on turn 22/22
Losses: 1x ME-262 due to poor monitoring of it's fuel levels (grrrrrrrr)

The time has come to defend Germany itself! It was nice to have a bit of prestige to work with, I put it to good use, got my units up to full strength and bought four Wehrmacht Infantry (without transport) and an Ostwind to replace the one that I lost and upgraded one of my last surviving Panzer IVs to a Tiger I. Although, this battle shows how divergent different cores can be, even with my five additional purchases I still had 13 core slots remaining, largely due to my losses earlier on in this campaign. I have to say, I would rather have Mountaineer's problem of having too many units any day of the week! :)

As been the case lately, I decided that my goals must be modest, and at the outset I decided I was only going to try to defend the four core hexes west of the Oder. I managed a pretty effective deployment of my units and was able to hold the Oder river crossings with few casualties. In fact, I was so successful that I actually thought about trying to go on the offensive but I considered the risk of walking into a trap too great. Viewing the battlefield af the end made me realize I made the right call! Trying to cross the Oder would have brought an untold level of hell upon my forces! Though I did sneak in some objective capturing on the very last turn for the extra prestige.

I think this was a pretty well-tuned scenario, the marginal victory objectives allow players such as myself with a weakened core to achieve a marginal victory if they play their cards right and also has challenging decisive victory conditions for players to aspire to.

One other note, I think the writing for the scenario briefings has been quite good and doing a good job of capturing the dark mood of this campaign.

General, imported core. Prestige 9474.

Back to street fighting. With only 4 infantry and 1 inexperienced SE infantry unit remaining in the core, I decided to use Tiger IIs as my main weapon in the city hexes. Having learned a painful lesson about tanks vs SMG infantry, I made sure to have artillery backing them up at all times. This worked well as the Reds would not attack my tanks when backed by artillery. I was mostly able to dictate the terms of the battle. Suppress the infantry with artillery and finish them off with the Tigers. I slowly advanced in the center of the map. I was able to make quicker progress on the wings. Ivan made a strong counter attack on the right wing, but I was able to break him. The AI spammed 4 IS-2s near the end but it was too little to late. DV on turn 17. Wiped the map clean. No units destroyed, but casualties were significant. Prestige award for the DV seems about right, I was able to bring my forces back up to full strength after the scenario, but my prestige reserves are about gone. On to Budapest!

I thought it would be over quickly. When I smashed across the river by turn 7 and swept up some towns I was greated by a wave. My Maus was nearly lost to SMG Infantry and several other panzers suffered. Prestige was light but adequate and I eventually ground down the attack. My ME410s and FW kept the skies clear, with lots of AA help. I finished at turn 17 and the prestige going to Budapest seems adequate to get back into the fight.

Were SMG Infantry really that effective? Two of them can destroy most tank units.

Heh, so far this is the only map where I completely cleared it of all enemies.
