Fire To Hit table questions

I find this table confusing and would like to confirm my understanding.

Is it correct that charging cavalry are hit on a 4+ only when fired on at close range?

Is it correct that a unit in a single rank is hit on a 6+ only when fired on at long range?

If the cavalry begin their charge from partially in front of the firers - otherwise it's 5's to hit.
So make sure you wheel to face any cavalry capable of charging you (if you wish to stand and fire).
