CMT to Advance result on Assaulting Unit and Command Range?

Post by KenPortner »

Let's say a unit starts the turn in Command Range and Assaults.

It receives defensive fire and gets the CMT to advance result.

At the point it received the defensive fire it's no longer in Command Range.

Does the Division Commander need to spend 2 CP to make it continue the Assault?

Thanks.

I can't remember just where, but the rules point out that you measure command range for tests at the beginning of the phase. So your unit would still pay only 1 point.

"The position of a unit before movement is used when checking if it is within the command range of its Division Commander. It does not re-measure if it makes a 2nd move."

It is not specific whether this rule applies to CMTs to charge home as well. Previously we had been playing that it doesn't, and you measure the range from a Commander when CMTing to close at the point you make the test.

However looking at the rules more closely now, I agree with Blathergut, this rule is not limited to 2nd moves and your unit would only pay 1 CP if it was in range at the start of the assault.

I think the first sentance of the rule is the general rule, the second sentance being a clarifying example.

That is correct. It can cause problems if you can't remember (or didn't note) the position of the unit before it charged. You could place an available ADC with the unit when it assaults and retrieve it if not needed - I'm sure you're opponent wouldn't mind.
