GS 2.1 Italian surrender cities

Post by zechi »

I have a question concerning the Italian surrender cities in GS 2.1. The Allies need five surrender cities to force an Italian surrender. Which cities count? I'm sure Tripoli, Tunis, Tirana, Cagliari, both Sicilian cities as well as all major cities in Italy itself count as surrender cities.

But what about the Railpoint cities like Reggio or Triest? Do they also count as surrender cities?

I believe all cities, including rail hubs, count toward Italian surrender now.

Thank you for the answers. I already tested it in Hotseat-Mode myself. This makes it really hard to defend Italy in the endgame, as it is difficult to hold the rail hubs as units can be forced to retreat from them.

Yes, that's true, but remember that this was because we upped the limit to 5 cities. I can't remember the old rule, but I seem to remember that if you took Tunis + all of Sicily Italy surrendered.

I think it was any 3 not in North Africa or just Rome itself. I remember the AAR where someone left Rome undefended then somebody else with the daring to try it landed a unit right on Rome and that was Italy out of the war.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.

That will still happen in 2.1 The Allies need 5 surrender cities OR Rome to force Italian surrender.

That was the famous Craig (Messina_nz) versus Max (SuperMax) game. :) Talk about a game changer ... but Max in his typical fashion took it stride, did what he could to make a game of it and played it to the bitter end.
