Hero bonuses spotting
I got a +1 spotting for 1 of my stukas. What real use is +1 spotting for an attack plane. On a recon I think it would be usefull but for a stuka does it help.

Re: Hero bonuses spotting
The answer is it is not useful. I get spotting on basically every unit. Artillery unit? SPOTTING! HOORAY. Seems like roughly 2/3 of my hero upgrades go into spotting. I know that must be an exaggeration but it sure seems like it.

Re: Hero bonuses spotting
I just got my second spotting hero on the same air unit. A first for me. Might even be useful as recon now.

now if only my Do 217E's would get a +2 spotting, they would be one of my most valuable units as they attack those AAA +3 range of the Bear

Re: Hero bonuses spotting
A quick reply on the initial question.
A bonus is better than no bonus!
A bonus is better than no bonus!
Re: Hero bonuses spotting
I thinl +1 spotting is PERFECT for StuKas as it means they can spot any AA in range and/or more targets for other planes
Okay, it might be better for fighters, but in general spotting is a great bonus for planes dont you think?

Re: Hero bonuses spotting
yahooooooooooo! finally got a +1 spotting on a reeeeeecon unit
got it for my SdKfz 232 8Rad during Smolensk41 battle.
I thought I would never ever never get one for a recon unit of all things
do you know how many times I've started from the 39 DLC camp over again and this is a first for me
watch, I'll get the unit destroyed in the next battle

Re: Hero bonuses spotting
Is there an easy way to see what bonuses a unit has earned?
Also, they really do need to do a summary page at the end of each scenario on kills and such....

A summary at the end of a scenario would be fine indeed, although I haven't missed yet.Cygnus2112 wrote:Is there an easy way to see what bonuses a unit has earned?

Leftclicking on a unit while pressing the "Alt"-key shows you individual unit statistics. Clicking on the battle history (Schlachthistorie) tab informs you on awards and heroes. Leaving the mouse pointer over a hero will show up a tooltip with information about the hero's bonuses.
Maybe a tip from this forum might aid you, because you don't always want to inspect the unit by "Alt2 + Leftclick to look after the heroes bonuses. Someone here suggested to include the heroe's bonuses in the units names. For example you have got an infantry unit with two heroes, one with an attack, the other one with a sighting bonus. Mark the unit, press "Alt" and "N" to rename it: 1.(if you use numbers) Inf AS (M would be for movement, R for Range, D for defense, I for initiative). Works fine in german, too.

Hope this might help you a little bit.

...and like the once-mighty Mahi-Mahi, you will end

Thank YOU! I was a huge fan of PG and just bought this game 2 days ago and LOVE IT! Will use those tips tonight on my first crack at Sea Lion 40.
Re: Hero bonuses spotting
Fliegenderstaub's tips about checking the bonuses on a unit are helpful, took me a while to find them vs. ctrl+click on the combat predictor to suss out the bonus effect.
Here's how I rename my units as soon as they get a bonus:
"2nd SE Infanterie" with a hero bonus of attack +3 and movement +1 becomes" "2/SS-Inf a+3,mv+1" *(note)
"Captured Char b1" is now a Tiger I named "Dijon Char a,d+2,mv+1"
I like to keep the original unit number in the name for authenticity, or for captured units where I got them or what they were (matilda, char, S.35, etc.). Most of my experienced, nicely bonused panzers by '43 are captures as they built up the experience prior to the IV F-2/G coming out and offering a survivable German unit.
I am in GC '44 now (2nd time through) and a lot of my tiger units are captures with names like that because the captured units built up experience or bonuses that made them valuable to keep instead of just cashing in and starting with a green unit. Knowing the bonuses at a glance when deploying makes it easy to put the movement, spotting enhanced units on the wings of formations or the map, and the defense oriented ones on or around large cities or other static defense points. The bonuses and experience greatly alter unit characteristics and deploying like that makes a tremendous difference in managing the early stages of the scenario.
Another thing I learned is not to sneer at redundant bonuses. For example, if a tank with a d+2 bonus gets another d bonus, don't fret. I have a tank that was d+3, then got a d+2. I immediately mentally earmarked that Panzer IV for an eventual upgrade to a Panther when they became available, instead of making it a Tiger or keeping it a IV for a while. A high "d" bonus panther with experience is a very, very potent weapon. I've campaigned that unit all through 43 and let me tell you, it dishes out damage; it NEVER comes back all shot up needing expensive repair/reinforcements. Opponent units do the math and will not take it on.
* - I rename my SE units "SS" as it's what they are supposed to represent. "SE" to me makes no sense - "Special Elite" or something? Just sounds phony. I have read on the forum the developers intent was to recreate the effect of SS units with them, so to me naming them as such makes sense. It's not a political statement by any stretch, just an historical one.
