Tercios Charging?

Post by saltire »

This is the scenario; TERCIO facing forwards announces a charge on an infantrybunitbtomtheir front. Horse behind the TERCIO announces intercept charge which cancels TERCIO charge. Horse hit TERCIO. What are the POA?
I.e. does the TERCIO still count as charging even though the charge has been cancelled as if it does the TERCIO loses +1 for 'non charging' and the Horse gain +1 by getting their pistols? Seems to go against the idea of the TERCIO against mounted.

Thanks in advance

The charge of the intercepted unit is cancelled. It no longer counts as charging for any purpose.

As far as I can tell, if it's an early tercio then the charge would not be cancelled since there is no legal rear interception charge and the interceptor would not be able to intercept in the charge path. If it's a later tercio, then it would be a normal rear charge situation with the horse at ++ and the tercio at --.

Chris

The intercept is valid by my reading. Even if it is an Early Tercio - it's not a charge in the rear but it is still a legal charge and therefore intercept.

It appears this has been answered before within the forum and the intercept is fine but because the Tercio charge is now cancelled the Tercio does not count as charging which I have to say makes sense to me.
Thanks for responding

You're right. There is an exception for tercios where the intercept is still allowed if the intercepting BG is in postion to charge the flank or rear "or would be in such a position if the enemy battle group was not a tercio of keil". So the intercept is allowed and the Tercio is treated as stationary receiving the charge since the charge is completely cancelled in this situation.
