Great hero combinations

Post by brettz123 »

What are some of the really good hero combinations you have had on units?

Three really stand out in my mind

Nebelwerfer with R1 R1 A3
Pioniere with M1 M1 I3
Stuka with A3 A3 A1

+1 movement hero on the dual purpose 88 is absolutely amazing.
+ initiative on infantry is also a fantastic hero to get, it makes them even more deadly in close terrain combat especially against other infantry.

I always wanted a recon with S1 S1
I thought that would be really useful!

That does sound pretty useful. Initiative heroes are pretty much my favorite. It makes units really brutal because it is a larger percentage increase in their stats as compared to attack and defense.

I do find defense heroes pretty useful too because they increase close defense which can be brutal.

In the vanilla campaign I once had a StuG III with +1 move hero and some attack hero. Invested the pp for turning it into an Elefant in 1943, which did quite well.

Tiger I with Attack +3, Defense +3 and Spotting +1
Ju88-G with Attack +8
Ju88-G with Initiative +2 - I may convert him to a Fw190-G to help beat back the Red Air Force
88 AA/ATG with Move +1

I ended up converting all my Stukas to ME-410s and Fw-190s because they just wasn't safe to have them in 44 anymore. I liked them a lot in 43 but by 44 they really just are obsolete. Even when excorted in 44 they are susecptible to attack and anything worth dive bombing will cause damage to them. Pity but it is pretty realistic.

I might need to start a new game and take an 88 with me. I just didn't like using them all that much. I found they were expensive to reinforce and took damage too easily. Might be a worhtwhile addition though for later scenarios. Plus it would be historical. Seems like the M1 or R1 hero on an 88 would be really awesome.

Whoops, I should have Said Ju87-G, Not Ju88-G. I've been escorting the Stukas with 2 Fw-190s each. So far I haven't lost one. The Stuka with +8 attack will erase a T-34-43 up to 12 strength in one shot. I'm not willing to give that up. They do take damage on the Kv-85s and IS series. I use them sparingly against those.

I like getting a +1 range on artillery. UInlike most, who generally use it on a shorter range unit, I change the uit to one that normally has a 3 hex range so I can hit the enemy artillery without getting into their range.
Overall movement is my favorite bonus as I alwys seem to have uits out of place :)

My favorite unit is currently a Nebelwerfer with +1 move and +1 range. Could not have asked for a better unit.

Yeah I usually want my +1 range on normal 3 range artillery but in 44 I am considering changing all my artillery to nebelwerfers. I really like the M1 R1 artillery but I didn't get any this last run through. I think my all time favorite though is the R1 R1 nebelwerfer I have. Range 4 on that thing is brutal.

I have never had 2 x +1 range heroes. That would be cool, especially on a defensive scenario. You could have a towed artillery with loads of shots that could really cover some ground.

I really liked, when I got in the Italian Campaign 2.0 (while testing + gaming) +1 move for the 149mm Artillery. When I later upgraded these two of them (which got this) on M41 75/18, I liked very much the higher maneuverability of them.
But the +4A +2D for armor and for fighter units was also not bad.
And maybe the +6A of the 90/53 AA gun (also in AT mode) is also not a bad thing. 8)

When I first started playing I thought the M1 hero on artillery was pretty bad but it turned out to be incredibly useful. I think my favorite artillery combination is M1 R1 (and if I am being greedy I would put A3 with that  )

The best hero combo I ever had was an 88 w/ 2 +1M's and +1 Range.

I later upgraded to a 128 .I gave the 128 a dual role,like the 88, in my mods.

That sucker ruled the battlefield.

It really is cool, Marty. I remember getting a Rng+1 hero on a Sturmpanzer in the Spoils of War scenario and firing over my own panzer, across a river hex, pass the enemy armour and landing on the AAA (a total distance of 4 hexes) with my fighter aircraft spotting the target hex! When I converted all my arty units to Wurfrahmen, the range dropped back to 3. All units (ground and air) generally get their first hero after 100 kills but for the second hero it really is variable. For me, the stukas and fighter aircraft got their second hero after 300 kills, the panzers after 600 kills and the wurfrahmen after 800 kills.

It isn't exactly variable you get your first hero between 100-200 kills. your second you get before 1000 kills, and then you get your third after 1000 kills. Not sure if there is an upper max on when you get your third but I have never had a unit go beyond 1800 kills and not get their third hero.
