Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
It seems to me that many things are about to change in the following days. Perhaps new allegiances will be formed. Perhaps the Gauls will be crushed. We will see.
Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
Hail Noble Senate
Once again a vexillation of the 14th Gemina "Victrix" ( awarded for meritorious service on the Gaulish frontier) is prepared to venture northwards. The mere name of our legion is enough to sow discomfort to our foes ... dare the Gauls stand against such brave & couragious standard bearers of Rome, after our last encounter saw them pushed back to their marshes & meres. Scienice & geographic discoveries await us on the Northern frontier, they even say that isles of mist & gold are to be found. We await the Senates command !

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
As the Pontics I defeated Supervark today, so Mithridates is now one game ahead in the series. 4-3. The most Rome can now hope for is a tie, which will leave Mithridates ready to brew yet more poison and rally more subject peoples to his cause. As Eric is no longer active, who among the Roman commanders is willing to challenge the Pontics again? Given the gravity of the situation, surely the Senate would regard it as acceptable to reach outside of the existing command structure and recruit a new general? Eh?Fedem wrote:III Legion has been defeated by the Pontics %&@!/@@!!!

Great book, btw.

To the Senate
As Legatus of the IX Legion which is currently at rest after a drawn battle and close loss to the Pirates.I propose that i as a humble student of Erics the Magnificent be given command of his Task force. The Pontics are nothing but rabble and rely on their cavalry which we will have a suprise in store for them. The time is now to strike at our enemies while the attempt to regroup. Decisive action must be taken now and my Legion is ready to spearhead the assault.

What is the split move rear charge? And how does it differ from being charged in the rear? Is this a problem for us??
In any event the 12th legion stands ready to go north, east or west.........but we shall not go south as there is much water there and we have no boats!

Tim,TJD wrote:Secret Memo #2 to the Senate:TheGrayMouser wrote: Thats right censor, you were wise to censor(ie edit) your prior recomendation of Fedemicus for leader of the Republican party. ( no offence to that worthy comander)![]()
My Xth legion wonders what they have done after all their achievements and sacrifices to be considered so lowly in the eyes of the Senate, that their CnC (who is a reflection of their deeds and honour) isnt even given the slightest alcolade for the defeat of Sertorius and the adding of a new bountiful province to the glory of Rome. They are beginning to believe the Senate only rewards those whom suffer defeats!
Observation:
Hispania is a large and wealthy region, which due to recent events is pretty much on its own governance wise.
The only civil and miltary authority in this wealthy and populus land is myself and the Xth legion. (plus my Spanish Auxiliaries eagerly learning the Roman way of fighting)
It pains me to see my beloved Xth so distraught that the Senate does not care for them nor I.
![]()
Subtly yours, T.G.M., Dux Hispania.
Tim here. Speaking as a Barbarian, I have only a primitive wit. You know that. Much eludes me. But not the smell of a skunk or a Sulla-in-the-making! TGM is setting himself up with an independent power base in Spain and intends to use his superb legions to back his bid to be the First Man in Rome! Can you not see this? Now we Gauls have an interest in this affair. As I control Gallia Narbonensis, I can block his landward access to Rome. He needs landward access, as Rome's fleet is still occupied by the yet-undefeated Cilician Pirates. But why would I want to block him? It might make more sense for me to allow him to march on Rome and tear the rest of you to pieces. It would be a short civil war, as his legions are second to none. In fact, TGM and I might strike quite a useful alliance.
I invite parley from all parties, including the Censor. Keep it simple. I have a primitive wit. Ironic, isn't it, that a witless Gaul may be arbiter of the fate of Rome?
Best,
Tim of Gaul
Just as you control the landward access to Rome for his armies, the fleets based in Sardinia likewise bar (or allow) a seaborne operation. A simple expedient of barring the harbours would prevent the Roman fleet from intercepting TGM's armada. On the other hand, I have access to a considerable flotilla of Shonky Sardine Fisherman who would gladly convey a force of Hispanic Heavies into Rome.
For a price.
That price would be a slice of the action and consequent ... erm ... booty.

Equally, if any Roman loyalist wanted to launch a pre-emptive assault into the nefarious TGM stronghold in Hispania, the Sardinian Sardine fleet is yours.Turk1964 wrote:Yes we all need to get back into the action i agree with Tullius. I can feel a Civil war brewing![]()

Now theres a thought bwahahahahaha. I havent seen any proposals from the Consuls so far.I cant vote on proposals that dont exist,so perhaps i should make a proposal.
Evil laugh

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate

Comes Mithridates, King of Pontus,
As Consul Bates Motel is apparently too busy with his creepy taxidermy experiments to be bothered with Senate business, Mithridates will speak to the real men of Rome, the Generals, and offer this proposal: that truce be declared between the Kingdom of Pontus and Rome. Why fight each other to exhaustion when the Generals of Rome clearly have internal political matters that require their full attention? TGM is a greater threat to your survival. Mithridates promises no aggressive action. Further, he will use his formidable influence to contain the Dacians from their ambitions on Rome's frontier. No one wants to fight the Dacians! Ask your General Rexus Hurlius just how high-smelling the Dacians are.
Mithridates deigns to await your response. No private communcations will be published. Ignore the fact that Pontic emissaries are in close contact with the conquerors of Gallia Narbonensis.

The Temple of Fortune
Introducing a new feature to our tournament, the Temple of Fortune! Each week the list of players will be randomized. The top two players will receive an incidence of Good Fortune, while the bottom two will receive Fortuna Mala! The list will be sent to Random.org and the result will be timestamped and kept, so there can be no question that I'm playing favorites. The good luck and bad luck that is actually dished out is, however, entirely in the discretion of your tournament organizer.
This week's winners are:
Turk1964 and Macsen!
Losers are:
TGM and Supervark!
--Turk1964, heroically engaged against the Cilcian Pirates, had the remarkable good fortune to capture some of their treasure, resulting in an accretion of 10 to his store of money!
-Macsen, who lost twice to the Allobroges and was captured, was sold into sexual bondage and is currently kept by Hydrophobia, the Gallic fishwife of great appetite seen here with her shellfish:

His Good Fortune consists of being fed a regular diet of shellfish to maintain his sexual vigor! Bon Apetit, Macsen!
(Will macsen ever escape this horror? Only if he manufacture his own Fortuna)
And now for the losers.
TGM, your Fortuna Mala is that you allowed Sertorian remnants to escape into Mauretania. You must now fight the Mauretanians! Shame that this comes just as you are planning to launch your Civil War. I'll set up a challenge for you later, password cotr!
Supervark, your Fortuna Mala is that you are to fight the last remaining battle in the series against Mithridates. A challenge will be set up for you as well, password cotr
Tune in next week for more from ..... The Temple of Fortune!

New motions for the Senate:
1) Send a new proconsular army to Cypress to finish defeating the Cilician Pirates.
2) Send a new proconsular army to Pontus to finish the campaign against Mithridates who should be allowed to use any more of his 9 ives.
3) Send a proconsular army to liberate Gallia Narbonensis/declare war on the Allobriges if not continuing previous state of war.(?).

My men are willing to defeat once and for all the Pontics.
They learned from their mistakes.
Salut!

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
The Cilician pirates defeated BurinusAgricolae today, ending the current round of battles against them. The Pirates have been successful and will consider an alliance with Mithridates. Mithridates has one battle left to fight in the current round, against Supervark. If Mith wins, Asia Minor falls. If he loses, the series will be a draw, leaving Mith in place and steadfast in his enmity to Rome.
The Senate should consider rotating its generals to new theaters of action.

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
Proconsul Batesmotelius is Correct we must finish the pirates but to do this we need to train Marines to deal with these thugs of the seas. I put forward a motion that a special task force under 1 inspired commander(instead of 3 commanders) be used against the pirates. We must control the sea before we can control the ports of romes enemies.Take away the trade of the Mithridiates and they will soon crumble.

Senator Fattus Adiposis Magnus has this to say:
Oh, I ask you, Romans, who is that profits most from the Cilician pirates? Let me phrase it in my most educated Latin: Cui bono? What brings the greatest profits to the pirates? it is slavery. Who needs slaves? Romans. Who controls the slave trade in Rome? Tiavals. Tiavals is virtually a Cilcian Pirate himself! He is an enemy of the state and must be proscribed! If it weren't for Rome's insatiable demand for slaves to keep our latifundia in operation, the Pirates would dwindle into a pack of half-starved pickpockets in a fortnight. Now, no one is seriously considering ending slavery. let us not be ridiculous. But it is folly to have the trade controlled by one man! Let us all profit equally. I have a plan! But I need a man who can defeat Tiavals and his street gangs! PM me.
Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
My dear Romans, I forgot to note earlier that, due to the recent victories of the Cilicians, they will now control Lycia. This extends their landward power and puts them into direct territorial contact with Mithridates, assuming he wins his next and last battle.
A most ominous development.
