shawkhan wrote:I restarted my campaign from the beginning halfway through the '43DLC when my prestige dipped below 1000. Couldn't replace losses any more and I saw the handwriting on the wall. In my present playthrough I have been able to put some prior knowledge and anhanced playing skills to good use. I hope the 40k I have been able to amass will get me through '45.

that 1000 prestige is eating at me shawkhan

went into Oboyan all cocky and loaded for bear. welllllll.....I did everything wrong I can think of and finally got impatient trying to push into the last two city hex objectives of the city :x got a marginal victory.....my FIRST marginal thru the whole campaign  oh man that is almost as bad as losing a Poland Core unit :!:

losing Core units seemed to be my lust this time for some reason. didn't lose any but came damn close to throwing out the baby with the bath water  I mean when I got frustrated and peod at myself with 5 turns remaining and I was at the gates of the city, I pushed hard and now have a grand total of 3797 prestige after rebuilding my trashed Core  you name it and I done the greatest dummy moves a PzC general could do............... :?

I sure hope this is a passing phase of my patience

ya know, there are days when the arm chair general should have done weed patrol instead of being on the PC :P

thought about a replay but has to go forward and take my lumps if I'm gonna try the "Kerensky Manstein I told you it's gonna hurt campaign"

One piece of advice when your core takes a beating: for the next scenario or two, do not be aggressive. Play cautiously, defensively, advancing forward slowly. Settle for a MV, which is the best way to save prestige and build up your strength.

PRESTIGE PRESTIGE PRESTIGE! who thought of this torture  well devs ya got the prestige problem that old PG had, knocked

just finished Prohkorovka for a DV. and all I could see is my prestige gains melt before my wide open eyes as I battled to that city in a galaxy far far away it seemed :P

some of my old children units were down to 2's and 3's and 5's and so on. all was fine until those counter attacks from the north of Kartashyovka and only the PzC god's know how many tanks, infantry, rocket launcers you name it came at me from the east of Prohkorovka, then I had to cry as I gave BIG amounts of prestige to my children to keep them alive

the StuG IIIG's are having a tough time along with the StuH 42's. used my reserve HE 177A's and they got blasted. after one rebuild each during the battle, they got parked  when the brass told me there would be enemy planes, they forgot to say how many as in MUCHO!

I was determined to get a decisive :!: it was going to be Valhalla or a DV....pure and simple

well now I'm down to 1234 prestige after rebuild of Core going into Dnipropetrovsk. it's not as bad as it seems. at Prohkorovka I upgraded some Pz IIIM's to
Panther D's and purchased two new Hummels and a Elefant. only thing is now I'm only allowed 39 units to deploy where as at Oboyan I was allowed 40.

probably let some infantry sit it out at Dnipropetrovsk to use my new equipment. it's a defense scenario and probably going to take MV's from now on in preperation for 44'
don't want to sell off my new Elefant. they got a +2 initiative hero in their first battle. what's holding the other Elefants back

Don't worry, Dnipropetrovsk is very commonly seen as a 'breather' scenario. ;)
This was very, very intentionally done because we recognized that the entire Kursk campaign, especially Prokhorovka, can be really taxing on a player's CORE.

Thor said no more of these Bears pushing you around! he said I have spoken to the PzC god's and you will win this battle called Dnipropetrovsk!!!!

with that encouragement and knowing I wasn't the only one in charge  the Core advanced like a Rugby team. pushing and smashing the Bear until the glorious DV was ours :D

well my prestige is now up to a whopping 2057 after rebuilds and my last Pz IIIM was upgraded to the now mechanical superior Panther D at the battle of Dnipropetrovsk

my Pz IVH's are still with me. giving some and taking more of the Bear's some :D

I remind myself of that joke of the guy who fell out the 13 story window. each time he passed by some floors on the way down and saw the people inside, he said "so far so good"

just a couple of more floors of 43' and AND I'M ON TO 44' YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

well so far so good. got the DV at Kremenchug. little tiny bit of a problem though. got 332 prestige after rebuilds going into Kieve43

upgraded my last Pz IVH to a Panther A during the battle of Kremenchug. I forgot to move it out of harms way. yes I left it sitting there without moving it a full turn  that was my only 3 heroes panzer unit I had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got reduced to 5 as I bit my toe nails watching the Bear chewing on it :?

oh man what a dumy I can be

then I had to sramble every Panther within miles to save the 3 heroes panzer unit on the next turn! so much for my counter offensive towards Lishchynivka and airfield. I tried at least 3 times to launch an offensive towards that city  the Bear just countered with even stronger attacks at me driving in force on Soloshyne. each time I had to withdraw my forces to defend that critical city which was always on the wrong side of the rivvvvvvver for an easy defense!!!!!!

the battle was glorious and a heck of allot of fun punching it out with the Bear there

could of set up a defense but my children wanted to go on the offensive and that we did. took all the western ports and had control of 2/3rds of the map or more for a few rounds.

well the last battle in DLC 43' awaits me. 332 prestige should get me thru if I hold the children back

gonna just sit tight and get the MV. hold 4 objectives. if all goes sour and I end up losing Core units of any sizable number, I'll probably start the campaign over again before starting 44'. I've had a great time learning and I know what kind of Core I want now. artillery is my weakness. I needed more artillery with more bang for the buck the way I play. the StuG's were fun but the SturmpanzerI would have been a better choice for me. then upgrade them to the Hummel later. the towed guns are killers but just a pain to keep them close to my panzers when I want to go on the offensive now.

also the StuG IIIG's are getting hammered by the Bear's equipment. many times I have to move them to the rear after getting hit. sometimes even if they have arty backup. putting them out in the clear is asking for the SMG to even take a shot! I have to watch these if they get to 10 strength. almost losing one or two lately. so, would have been better to have more panzers than spats for me.

I also have a nasty habit of using my fighters close to AA of Bear. now he's double teaming and that ain't good on the prestige! I have 6 and seem to be doing real well keeping the Bear's airforce away so far even with as many as there have been.

this is what's great about the PzC. I can go back and try something else out as far as equipment goes. It's up to me to be more or less aggressive. up to me to try different tactics and strategies. that's what I loved about PG. I could make it harder or easier and learn new stuff. PzC for me is gonna last a long long time on my puter. I haven't even started trying out different stuff

and they said he couldn't do it! WE DID IT! A DV AT KIEV43!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

man O man. waiting waitng waiting and waiting until that last turn to take the last objective hex 18,3 at Kiev! that's strenuous on this guys grey matter and he ain't got much to start with

had to bleed the Bear and he still didn't give up without a fight for Kiev!

this time it took all the patience I had (((not))) to go for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

placed my units for the best result for a change  was able to hit the Bear hard all the way on the west side of the Dnieper River and take all of the objectives then flank north west on the east side of the river for the other southern objectives. all I could think about was those flying Bears like at Orel when HQ said paras
Orel, they were a sleeper in the east of the map. had units protecting my behind for the longest time but was nervous about that all the way thru the battle. shot down anything in the damn sky including mosquitoes that resembled anything the Bear might use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

make no mistake, Kiev was a nail bitter all the way tru the battle for me. had to rush more Panthers there a couple of times. my towed arty was never allowed to go under 3 rounds and kept an (((ever))) vigilant eye on my defense units ammo at Kiev. no more of that running out stuff this time

well got the DV and have 3023 prestige left over after the battle. not bad for a first time no lookie at the map in DLC 43' I survived and deserve a medal toooo and some hero hugs from the painter :D

time to download that 44' everyone has been talking about and I read that little tid bit about 45'. the tid bit that said the gloves are comming off. well I feel so good about surving 43' that ya all can come and get some in 45'
