The second battle against the troops of Mithradates ended in the barest of victories. Mars was on our side this day. 26/29 vs 38/37

A new map is up, reflecting Roman gains in Hispania (the establishment of the province of Lusitania) and the loss of Gallia Narbonensis to the Gauls.

Gathering my shattered remnants and spending profusely from my purse we have a semblance of a legion again. Where is it we should next attack?

Romans !

Hereby the presiding Consul Batesmotelus opens the 2nd meeting of the Roman Senate.

The Consul himself will have to make up to 3 proposals, each Tribune is eligible to make 1 proposal.

The meeting will be closed on the 19th of April, the Senate votes on 20th of April.

Secret Memo to the Senate

Tim here. Speaking as a barbarian, I'm astonished that you Romans can be so blasé about the loss of Gallia Narbonensis. This is an immense insult to the Republic. The Gallic Threat is one of Rome's primal fears -- you know, Brennus, Sack of Rome 390 B.C. and stuff -- and surely this ancient dread has been juiced up by these losses. Hasn't it? If that does't nerve you up, then consider the psychological effect that Roman defeat has on your potential enemies. I mean, the whole of the non-Roman world looks upon you with wonder and ridicule as you lay down and do nothing while Obelix the Gaul takes a dump on the Roman eagle. Abroad, new life has been breathed into the Pontic foe. The Dacians are surging on the frontiers. Even the Cilcian Pirates are rowing harder and practicing their "Arrrs" more assiduously.

Pontus is far. Gaul is near. The nearer the skunk, the worse the stink. So put Gaul at the top of your agenda.

Can't wait for the next round of battles!

Lets take it to the Gauls, leave the pirates to storms which are brewing and Neptune will deal with those Heathenn toads.Send the IX against the Gauls and we shall have them on the run.

By the gods, Gallic peasants conquer Roman lands and then tell us how to handle the crisis, and what happens, senators jump on the bandwagon? Whose giving the orders here, the Senate or barbarians?
Anyways, since the senate has seen fit to sever communications with Hispania by giving the Narbo lands to Asterix, I shall make due. Since all that silver I'm mining cant be shipped to Rome and it'll go bad just sitting in warehouses, Ill make good use of it by building aqueducts, swords etc. Keep the locals busy, happy and loyal

I show that Keyth and Kilroy are the sole Tribunes, representing the Populars and Plutocrats respectively. Not much has been heard from these fellows lately.

Thats right censor, you were wise to censor(ie edit) your prior recomendation of Fedemicus for leader of the Republican party. ( no offence to that worthy comander) :)
My Xth legion wonders what they have done after all their achievements and sacrifices to be considered so lowly in the eyes of the Senate, that their CnC (who is a reflection of their deeds and honour) isnt even given the slightest alcolade for the defeat of Sertorius and the adding of a new bountiful province to the glory of Rome. They are beginning to believe the Senate only rewards those whom suffer defeats!

Observation:
Hispania is a large and wealthy region, which due to recent events is pretty much on its own governance wise.
The only civil and miltary authority in this wealthy and populus land is myself and the Xth legion. (plus my Spanish Auxiliaries eagerly learning the Roman way of fighting)

It pains me to see my beloved Xth so distraught that the Senate does not care for them nor I.
Subtly yours, T.G.M., Dux Hispania.

Secret Memo #2 to the Senate:

Tim here. Speaking as a Barbarian, I have only a primitive wit. You know that. Much eludes me. But not the smell of a skunk or a Sulla-in-the-making! TGM is setting himself up with an independent power base in Spain and intends to use his superb legions to back his bid to be the First Man in Rome! Can you not see this? Now we Gauls have an interest in this affair. As I control Gallia Narbonensis, I can block his landward access to Rome. He needs landward access, as Rome's fleet is still occupied by the yet-undefeated Cilician Pirates. But why would I want to block him? It might make more sense for me to allow him to march on Rome and tear the rest of you to pieces. It would be a short civil war, as his legions are second to none. In fact, TGM and I might strike quite a useful alliance.

I invite parley from all parties, including the Censor. Keep it simple. I have a primitive wit. Ironic, isn't it, that a witless Gaul may be arbiter of the fate of Rome?

Best,

Tim of Gaul

The 12th Legion is once again back up to strength and awaits orders from the senate of Rome.

(Players request, can we please have an amended list showing the number of votes per player? And are our party affiliations able to change or are we committed to what we have already chosen?)
