4 comprehensive reports from games using an Imperial Spanish army, compiled at a recent 500 AP, 4-games-in-a-day FoG:R competition held in Farnboro.
This was quite an unusual format of event, as we used 40mm movement distances, which certainly meant the action started pretty quickly ! I was initially a little concerned that 500AP might be too few, but again, most people seemed to be able to eke out 10+ unit armies, and the table didn't seem that sparsely populated, or certainly not to the extent that LH or mounted armies dominated in any way.
All in all a good format, and fitting 4 games (or 1 & 3/4 hours each) into a single day was also a very good use of my time, so many thanks to Richard and the club at Farnboro' for organising it - looking forward to the next one already !
Great reports! And very amusing seeing how many different ways are there to write "Caballos Corazas" It seems that your last opponent tried to win without moving, as I did to you years ago with a very different outcome...
Our FoG-R games are usually between 550 and 650 points, depending upon what army we are using and what figures are available. a normal game, with set up and coffee, runs about 2 to 3 hours. We try to get two games in on Saturdays ... And with those points we generally get between 9 and 12 BGs. We do use the 1" = 1 MU though and fight on 6x4 tables, always 28mm. We limit the table to 3 terrain pieces, somthing that fits the armies fighting. This past Saturday was NMA vs. Scots Royalist. We had a village, a wood and an enclosed field. So by the time we arrived, unpacked the toys, chat, set up the table, layed the terrain, diced for deployment, deployed and fought the battle it takes 2 to 3 hours. A second game, when played goes faster. If we have four players we set up two tables and keep the terrain.
It is good to see one of the FoG illuminati playing these smaller games in 28mm, Your army was gorgeous I might add. I think smaller-point games give a better game in the FoG world. Deployment becomes more critical, moves are more critical and combats, obviously, become more critical.
As for out Saturday adventure, Cromwell, played by me, crushed Montrose so bad he may be e-baying the whole darn army. It was my first win in a long long time. Too many games against those cheesy Swedes.
