Cavalry CMT assaults

Post by hazelbark »

So a cavalry uniit is charging and takes 1 hit.

The results of firing chart have two effects. CMT to advance and Cavalry must retire to 3 MU if closer. * where *include a horse artillery attachment.

I presume the proper where to read this in an assault is: CMT to finish closing, if either failed or did not take a CMT then retire to 3 MU*.

Meaning one hit does not prevent cavalry from closing on a unit. Full stop.

Note: I presume any attached artillery to cavalry is horse artillery or is that a special attachment.

The way I look at the chart Dan is that the Cav or foot taking 1 hit must make a CMT roll. Success and they can each advance. Fail and the Cav retreat to 3MU if they are closer, none if they are farther, and foot I guess just stand where they are. You figure the chart is for all units, not just for Cav.

Hi,

My interpretation is the same as this.
Note: I presume any attached artillery to cavalry is horse artillery or is that a special attachment.
Always assume it is horse artillery. p.89 describes Artillery attachments and says "...for accuracy attachments to Cavalry units should always be depicted as horse artillery".

Both cavalry and foot must take a CMT if they wish to continue into contact or advance.
If they choose not to take a CMT or they fail the CMT then:
Infantry stay where they are.
Cavalry must retire to 3MU away from all enemy, unless they have an artillery attachment, in which case they may choose to stay where they are.
