Placing roads

Post by hazelbark »

I presume that roads can be modified and therefore "slide" if that was the modifier roll.

I assume that on a "5" a road can pivot as long as it still complies with road placement rules.

Is there any thing that prevents a road from NOT ending somewhere? Meaning it goes and just stops?

I initially thought that there was no adjustment for roads, but reading pp.99-100 again, its only initial placement rolls that aren't required. No mention of roads (or rivers and streams) under adjustment. So I'd have to conclude that in principle, at least, roads (and rivers and streams) can slide or be pivoted (although I hope this in an oversight by the authors).

However, I'd argue that roads must always comply with the conditions on p.95. These are part of a description of what a road is, not part of the terrain placement process. i.e. if a road doesn't pass through or touch a building or other road, it isn't a valid road. This might well limit the potential of adjustment after placement.

Roads and rivers may not be moved.

The last sentence on page 99 should read:
The adjustment roll is made after each area feature is placed.

Another Errata point.

May I suggest you just say roads and rivers instead of "area". Area is not a term used or introduced much. And it would be better to be clearer rather than have more hidden code.

Just trying to make as small a change as possible.
I'll review the errata before publishing though and try to reword them for clarity if possible.
