Explain the game to others

Post by IainMcNeil »

Hi guys,

if any of you are enjoying the game and woudl like to help out then it would be great to get you involved in a discussion with people trying to get to grips with it over at Matrix.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=1054

I can post but it always looks best if comments from gamers not the official sources! :)

Rioght now there are a lot of negative comments based around a few issues and peopel seem to be fixated on those rather than the game as a whole.

Cheers

Iain

First off I wouldn't be so harsh on yourselves.

Fact, the game is TURN Based ie NONE of the moron behaviour of real time strategy (of which I could rag on endlessly all damned day). They've been churning out those things for a long time, and let me tell you, they almost seem to never learn at all.

I am not expecting the game to be perfect on day 1, and no one else should be.

Steel Panthers, Combat Mission, Close Combat some of the biggest pillars of computer wargaming ALL have some aspects that make a person scratch there head and say WTF? I do not require Team Assault to be better than these wargame giants. And certainly not on it's opening weekend.

I have seen all manner of hysterical reaction to Battle Academy's 'cartoon look' a comment totally unwarranted, and as far as I am concerned, Battle Academy is the best computer wargame made since I discovered Steel Panthers in the late 90s. Some people will just bitch and scream a lot.

Team Assault will need a patch to address a few 'oops' factors. So be it, I am not holding it against the developers.

The manual will happen. The demo likely will happen. The bitching will happen too :) (wargamers bitch for the sake of bitching).

The only thing I think the developers can do wrong, is fail to exploit the revolution in gaming device choices. Only an idiot thinks wargaming must stay on the PC. Fortunately the developers chose to be with Slitherine, and thus you have wargaming's best choice of publishers.
There is no anti piracy method to piss you off, and you can find games from Slitherine to run on PC, DS, PSP, and tablets (both iPad and others).

Life has prevented me from playing my day 1 purchase. Oh well sucks to be me :)
I have not regretted the purchase.
I do sometimes regret being a wargamer though :) Some of our crowd can be really embarassing.

I won't spend a lot of time on this, fact is, Matrix Games does NOT have a firm grip on their forums. And while I realize Slitherine is sort of the same entity, the thing is, EVERY time I go to that forum it's the same thing, I notice it is over run with spam, and it has too many ill behaved old timers that think they are some how worth more than they are.

I'll stick to a civilized well managed unspammed to hell and back forum thank you.

THEY can come here.

Very interesting take on things DSWargamer – both of your posts. . . . . and I couldn’t say it any better myself.
I have never visited Matrix’s forum – or at least not in a very long time. But I will still have to take a look over there. . . . . . I am too dedicated to TA and Zeal not to.

You, Xerkis and all like you makes it worth the years we spent making the game. Even if we don't make back even a dime of what we spent to make it. :)

That is very kind of you to say. And I am just humbled to be a part of it.

. . . . . But I hope you make a killing at this game.

Agreed. All my respect to all of you guys for keeping it at a constructive level. It helps both players and developers.

I stumbled upon the post at Matrix through another thread, and I agree with DSWargamer. Genre-specific fora tend to create an incrowd, who back eachother up with the same old nonsense over and over again. Without proper moderation that could lead to post such as the "first impression" one. Bah, if they like to compare all games to their favourite game, why don't they bother trying other games at all?

Zeal had an idea, I say, stick with that. Your ideas make your creation unique. I like that more then "insert token title" 12 of yet another gaming series that repeats what we've seen the past 10 years. Not that you can't borrow good ideas though :)

I've given the Matrix guys my 5c on this topic, but I'm not expecting anything for it.
