Artillery in close combat

Post by Robbrr »

Hi,

A pretty basic question, I'm getting ready for our first game and I wanted to confirm how many dice artillery use if they actually get into close combat.

1) Unlimbered guns, assuming they pass the Cohesion Test, then Fire and assuming their opponent passes any tests and makes contact, is it 4(small) or 6(large) dice?
2) Limbered guns, do they have to evade (seems sensible), but in theory, if the enemy makes contact, do they fight with any dice?

Thanks

Rob

They get 4 dice (small unit) as "other troops or situations".
Artillery also get a -poa in combat, and so need 5+ to hit.

If the gunners did not manage to see off their attackers with defensive fire, they are generally toast.

Thanks for the help- I assume the limbered guns get dice as "other troops or situations" as well?

Limbered guns can evade so get a chance to bugger off at least, looks like they use other troops for combat.

Artillery always use the "other troops or situations" (4 dice)
Cavelry are on a +POA against them
The artillery are on a -POA against everyone.
Limbered artillery evading and caught will be disordered are "attacked in the flank or rear"

Basically artillery MUST stop a charge with firing, otherwise they are toast!
