Totally Awesome!
My 11 year old had his first real game last nite! Rome against Cathaginians! My two older boys have no interest (probably cause it isn't on the xbox!) But my youngest, he is turning into a geek like dad! Brought him to the club for the first time, where he played my buddy! He actually won…go figure!
On the ride home he told me he wants his own army…one with knights! LOL! Guess I will be making a new purchase in the near future!
Just wanted to pass this along! It's great when the younger generation want to play! Especially when it's not warhammer or 40k! LOL

Good to hear.
My 12 year old plays in the 650 point competitions which are ideal for youngsters. His biggest achievement to date was getting a winning draw in his last competition.

That's wonderful, Kankre. I'm hoping to get my daughter interested in this kind of thing as well.... wish me luck. I have a while to work on her, tho... she's only a year old.
Re: Totally Awesome!
Good luck with that! My daughter who is 11 has zero interest...unless of course she can paint my "horsies" pink! LOL
Re: Totally Awesome!
That's exactly what my wife threatened to do!
Re: Totally Awesome!
I threatened to paint my sons WH40K orcs pink , with a Hello Kitty motif.
He quite liked the idea as he thought it might annoy GW. I just need to find the time.
In the meantime I have some Khurasan bears for Tomorrows War and we can now say that
they look great in pink.
So...horses next....

Stick with it ,when Katie was 15 she played a year or so on the UK circuit, she even played the Worlds in Rome, its not quite so cool now, however the grandchild is on the way.
We even played as a team with Lynda at Derby.
Anyway she agreed to do it if I painted an army for her in specific colours,Han Chinese look quite good in pinks /purples and blues.
She has been around the hobby all her life though,I've played games when she was 6 weeks ,her in one arm ,dice in the other

Just trying to think what would be a good army for him.cankre wrote:My 11 year old had his first real game last nite! Rome against Cathaginians! I'm thinking something in the later period of the early knights at the cusp of heavily armoured/armoured knights - that way he can go either direction. Medieval so he can build anything.
Maybe Crusader?

I would be cautious on crusaders as peopel can run away and then around them.
If he wants knights I would look at
Serbs 4 knight BGs and some stuff to guard flanks
Aragon or Castillian types can have 3 BGs plus stuff. One is usually drilled
French Ordonance. 3 Drilled BG version with an excellent Tool kit.
Some Medieval Germans ahve a good supporting cast although not enough Lights.
Sicilians.
I would get a few options and then talk to him about the history of each and then the army. Then let him choose so he is bought in and will explore further.

Well my kid finnally made his decision...Later Seleucids. Cats, Pikes, Elephants and chariots...all the toys a boy could want! LOL. Plus he will be able to stay "in book" with opponents armies.

Re: Totally Awesome!
I say 'great choice'. You can do loads with that (any successor) with minimal increase in figures, and once you head down a road of adding troops you can end up with a new army. For example, make a Bactrian and you're half way to making an Indian army.cankre wrote:Well my kid finnally made his decision...Later Seleucids.
