Pike base depth

Post by Switzer »

Hi All

Until now i assumed all pike units had a base depth max of 4.
So can u have 5 or more to allow for casualties ?

I believe you can have as many as you like / can afford.

Yes, only 4 ranks count towards POAs, but there is no reason that you can't have more and in some cases you'd be forced to, i.e. in order to retain Keil formation.

The extra pike base topic rears its ugly head again, it caused a lot of comments in the ancients forum way back when. Of course there you need to be 4 deep to get the extra +POA
If your list will allow you to have 5 deep pike go for it.

Best if you can have 5 deep as like as not you will lose a base on the way in and 3, 4, or 5 deep makes no difference for being shot at, except that being 5 deep might reduce the number of bases of the enemy that can target you due to the arc of fire rules.
