Observations from over here. Plus a 3.78% chance of attending Britcon. And an even money that would be for R.

If you really like Opens you can award a prize for best place for a 16th century army.

Also the downside I see is while Keils may have effectiveness vs TYW types, I don't know it that is as true about early Tercios. I suspect that the ET is the loser in an open period. Meaning people go Keil, LT or later. Mounted excluded. Also once impact pistol cavalry comes on line that really makes it rougher for the 16th century mounted. OF course the heavy lance is the answer to the Impact Mounted. I've often wondered why...

Please leave it as an open comp. I don't have time to paint up another army!

What about bringing back the old "two-list" format, and allowing two different list compositions from the same army, date (& general/theatre of war if relevant) ?

That would have the advantage of allowing everyone to have a "normal" list and and "anti-Alastair" list as well

I think that's a good idea. Of course, you already can have 2 lists, one with detached shot and one without. This would allow you to have 4...

I have to say, we used the two-list format at Cold Wars and it worked well.
BTW, I'm coming, but undecided between R and AM.

Matt,
I'm not so sure it worked well. Once person I played had only written one list. When he discovered he was playing me in the second round he quickly worked out a second list that maximized his advantage over my army (and with my armies there are distinct advantages to be gained in doing so). Granted the terrain didn't fall well for him, so I snuck out a close run victory. I think that both lists should be written in advance of the start, and if they are not limit the person to one list.

Good Luck.

That's usually Alasdair's original list.

That would be, erm, cheating. Both lists should be done in advance.

To be fair I think, he had one list ready and might not have known that we were having a two lists option available beforehand.

Sadly I will not be able to attend Britcon this year. I had been hoping real life would be kinder. It has not so I will not be able to attend, which is a real shame as I enjoyed the past 2 events greatly. Hope to be back for 2013. Candidates for last place, please apply in the usual manner.

Simon,

1944 Panzer Grenadiers with attached Panzer V Panthers with ME109 cover!!!

Failing that I can recommend Early Henrician's as they fought Ben to a 10-10 draw!! If however you want to beat him, don't ask me!!!

So Don,

how would I beat him?

Other than with a big stick.

I reckon my germans will be out again, but some of those armies where I can get six heavy guns are calling me.

I liked this rules in DBR but ......... some armies get the advantage fot the 2 list (ex: 30YW German can have many different troops) whereas others can't (ex: Swiss are always pike+pike+pike)

Hi Simon

A difficult one, he plays his french foot with minimum cavalry very well and I'd be surprised if he didn't bring one of the french lists, I stick to the logic play the armies you enjoy and worry about who you are playing later, i'm sure you have plenty of armies but if you wanted to do something different I have mosts armies and you could borrow any of them,

see you there

cheers
