Britcon table size - time for something new?

Table size and points. I can decide period or open later. With flying for two days and playing then flying straight back I am keen to book soon so I get a cheap fare.

Hopefully you won't run away to the biblical period Dave!

I went Biblical last year as a practice for Lisbon. I don't know what the periods, points or table sizes are going to be at Britcon, but if you let me know what period you are in I will follow suit. Would be a shame if you went chicken like last year.

Are you doing Lisbon as well?

...... 900 point single armies are too big. They slow the game down, make it difficult to reach a game-conclusion and make it difficult for new players to get into the hobby and tournaments. Of course I play in 28mm so I imagine the above suggestion is for 15mm, We play 650 point games (for single play) and this has allowed some new players to buy and paint their own armies. While an army may be more interesting at 900 points, is it become less historic? Does the focus of a Caesarian Roman army become its auxiliaries or does it remain the legions?

You are wrong on most counts. You are right that running events for new people with new armies is a good thing.

A republican Roman army at 900 points has a better chance of getting its legions into a fight, rather thatn havingthem march around and not engage.

what about 6 x 3. You still have the width but not the depth and a better chance of chasing skirmishing troops off table.

Matt Iverson has long recommended this as a solution for making HF viable but still allowing a manuver and skirmish game.

New job this year so do not have the leave to make more than one competition. I have take a weeks leave to make britcon which is my preferred Northern hemisphere competition.

Strange that I chickened out into the larger competition. But at least I didn't get second again after switching periods
