Where can I find a detailed chart, that would feature the influence of each type of the terrain on the combat and on the movement?
Playing some winter scenarios I have noticed, that the swamps still have a profound impact on the combat, while IMO they shouldn't. Under the conditions of the infamous Russian Winter, they would be frozen and couldn't possibly have a negative influence on the movement and on the fighting.

All of this information is in the Library, which can be found in game.
Re: Terrian influence chart / frozen swamps
Could someone post the terrain chart here? For some reason I cannot see the images form my library. I would also suggest to include this chart in the game's manual. I bet most of the players ( like myself ) don't even look into the library.Kerensky wrote:All of this information is in the Library, which can be found in game.
Any feedback on frozen swamps?
Thanks

Re: Terrian influence chart / frozen swamps
On a related point, there is some terrain I first noticed in the DLC map Kharkov43, called 'rough field' (or something similar). It looks like bocage (seems like the same graphic), and I was wondering if it had the same terrain properties. I never did get a chance to try it out as the AI refused to move his troops within proximity of it!

Some swamps can be forded, some cannot. I don't know if the AI is doing this on maps or not, but some people make "impassable swamps". You do this by placing a "lake" tile with water on a hex then covering it with "swamp" vegetation. You can also do this for the winter in which even if frozen, these swamps may become impassable. I do this around areas that I want to protect from attack so that it limits the areas I have to defend or repell attacking forces. It can also be used to "funnel" armies into certain areas that you can fight better to your advantage just as mine fields do in real life.
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?
Re: Terrian influence chart / frozen swamps
According to the every known account of the fighting on the Eastern Front, the arrival of winter and extremely low temperatures actually improved the mobility of the units ( while admitttely, making the life of an average soldier, forced to struggle for survival under those conditions, utterly miserable ). The temperatures far below zero would cause all the Soviet mud and swamps to froze, negating their adverse effect on the movement. Due to that, I am suprised that for example in the Demyansk scenario of the DLC 41' the swamps have a serious effect on the combat. Hasn't anybody pointed this out yet?soldier wrote:yep, don't drive your tanks onto themAny feedback on frozen swamps?

Re: Terrian influence chart / frozen swamps
Your probably right, a frozen swamp wouldn't cause tanks anymore trouble than a frozen river, unless they couldn't support the tanks weight but in the game armour gets penalized either by a terrain cap or by having troops shoot at their close defense. I can't remember which but I've played frozen north enough times to know not to go there. The penalty makes more sense in "summer swamps" of course, not so much in winter.
Re: Terrian influence chart / frozen swamps
An example from my current game - DLC 42 Vitebsk.

A T 34 occupies a hex with a lake. It looks like a bug but it's actually right - the lake is frozen, hence it is not impassable anymore. The same should apply to the frozen swamps. Their negative effect on the combat and movement should be negated in the winter. Makes sense to me.
