Unit skin rendering.
Hi. I've noticed alot of different, and really good, skins for the self-propelled equipment in Panzer Corps(for example, there's a good pack on the DMP website called 'Icons'). Most of them do not effect the detail of the unit at all. However, infantry is another story. With the exception of Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck, I can't find any skins that look like they belong in the game. Most of 'em have a cartoon-ish look. Also on the DMP, I found a Falschirm-Pioniere and a modified Pioniere with the German helmet. These were both great ideas and looked cool, but the rendering was off and they didn't look like they belonged in the game. I'm trying to find icons like those, but with a rendering that makes them appear to belong in the game.

I suppose I should also insist that I mean no offense to the folks who've spent tons of time and effort making new units. I appreciate your efforts. Most times I won't use a custom unit because I can't get the damn offsets right. That is another question. Is there a system for doing that, besides trial and error?

Sorry, I didn't understand your question. What offset are you talking about?4kEY wrote:I suppose I should also insist that I mean no offense to the folks who've spent tons of time and effort making new units. I appreciate your efforts. Re: Unit skin rendering.
To align the animation with the unit icon, like muzzle flashes. I was wondering if there is a program or system that makes the alignment-process less blind when implementing a unit that isn't the same as something already in the game.
My other question was basically asking if there were any such custom unit skins that looked like the ones already in the game, quality-wise. I think I've found two that I was able to get, Panzerschreck & faust. You, I believe, did a Bruckenpioniere that looked good, but it wasn't the complete picture. so I couldn't use it. Also, the Falschirmpioniere I mentioned before - I wouldn't know where to begin making an animation/offset for something like that, because I don't think there's an animation with a flamethrower and muzzle flashes that distance from eachother.
With the Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust, I was thinking of making them multi-purpose switches of the infantry and SS infantry, because of their respective colors - one of them has a greenish uniform, so to keep the switch from looking funny, it would be from the SS infantry.

Ahh, that offset. No, I'm afraid there is no tool, so it's really trial and error. Of course devs, have their own tool.4kEY wrote:To align the animation with the unit icon, like muzzle flashes. Which one? That with a bridge? I'll finish it.4kEY wrote:You, I believe, did a Bruckenpioniere that looked good, but it wasn't the complete picture. so I couldn't use it.

Cool. I can't find the thread again, but from what I recall, that scheme seems to fit the SS units better than the original standard "SE" we've been using. Knowing that, I dunno if you want to do versions of the other infantry as well.....I think it'd be great.
Re: Unit skin rendering.
I'll do it for other armies as well. But I need a little time. Too many projects at the same time, 4kEY.

Sometimes I picture VPaulus as an eight armed Octopus sitting at a computer, making even the most multitaskers shrink from embarrassment.

Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

Wunderbar VPaulus. Wunderbar and vielen dank. You know the Octopus is one of the most intelligent creatures in the sea and the entire animal world for that matter.
For Panzer Corps fans one day in the future there will be one big folder with many little folders inside. These folders will contain many icons, vanilla and custom, all variations of skins, etc. They will be categorized by icon type so a quick look at a file will reveal most all the skins and camouflage variations made for this wonderful game by generous and talented people like VPaulus, Rezaf, Bebro, Puma, churchlakecity, Net Wolf, Balck and many others.
