BHGS Challenge

Post by TimChild »

I have just been prompted by a mention elsewhere to remind you all of the BHGS Challenge - usual venue at Licensed Victuallers School in Ascot, usual 3 days (Friday fun, 3 games on Saturday, 2 on Sunday - food etc all provided for breakfast and lunch, working on what to do Saturday evening - probably cold buffet).

The really important point is that the price is £25 for entries received by 9 February, so get your cheques in a.s.a.p! After that, the price goes up to £30.

For those that can make Friday, as usual the tables will be all laid out so that you can pick up practice games, board games, new games, and whatever you like. In addition, Chris Hanley will as usual be reprising his very successful Biggles WWI flying game (which I anticipate will be heavily over-subscribed) and I am promised that Terry Shaw will be putting on a big FOG Napoleonic game (fingers crossed).

If anyone else wants to get together a multi-player FOG:AM or FOG:R, get yourselves organised quickly but the hall is big enough to accomodate you!

Just a reminder to get your entries in - we have plenty of entries for 15mm but could do with some extra 25mm, but it's a big hall so there is still space for more in both scales. :D

Also, one of the players has reminded me that BST kicks in overnight on the Saturday/Sunday - I will try to remind people in the hall on Saturday, but don't forget to adjust your clocks and be there on time on Sunday.

An important update - Paypal payment is now properly live on the website. www.bhgs.co.uk, the navigate to Events and to Challenge. The in the usual way to the Delegate Entry page (button at foot of main Challenge page). The link to Paypal entry is on the Delegate Entry page.

21st century here we are. :) Anyone who has been waiting for this because you have no chequebook, please book now.

The closing date for entries, and the date that lists have to be in, is 9 March - so please don't think that the ability to pay with Paypal means you should wait until 2 days before the event to enter!

Cheers,

Tim

It means I can enter on the 9th instead of posting on the 8th.

... and that's the sort of approach that has always worried me about online payment.

It's stressful enough as the organiser of a major event, without having half the entrants not letting you know that they are coming until the closing-date!

I have been told by Jer today that you have entered already Phil, sorry for rising to the bait.

And at the risk of rolling another 1...

We are a little light on entries for the 25mm FOG this year. We do (just) have enough to make it happen but it'd be good to have a couple more. If there is anyone out there planning on entering who hasn't yet, please could they make themselves known a.s.a.p., and if there is anyone who would like to swap 15mm finesse for a 25mm punch-up that'd be fine too!

Numbers overall for The Challenge are looking good - with 5 days to go until the official closing date for entries (9 March) we are pretty much to the same numbers as last year, which is great. However, while we can make a few tables extra capacity we won't have room for a significant late rush. If you have not yet entered, please, please can you do so urgently and email me to let me know? Both 25 and 15mm are Go.

Entries are easy - paypal option on the BHGS website (Events tab - Challenge pages - Delegate entry tab) - www.bhgs .co.uk

On a seperate but related note:-

FOG:N is due for release any day now. We will be hosting the first post-release tournament at Challenge, but because we know that a lot of gamers are keen to experience FOG:N for themselves, Terry Shaw will be there on Friday running a series of 1-hour introduction games (armies provided) during the day.

We will not be running the Wargamers Quiz this year, but the hall and common-room (and beer-fridge :o) ) will be available throughout Saturday evening as usual. This is an ideal opportunity to bring along those much-loved other games that we all love and to play them in the company of other gamers - so, whether it's DBA, OGRE/GEV, Wings of War, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Battlestar Galactica, Arkham Horror, Brittania, Risk or something that no-one else has ever heard of (big fan of Mordred and Mississippi Queens, myself) that you love, bring it along and take a break from the "serious" competition gaming with a few laughs with mates.

Cheers,

Tim

I can give you Riders, but not runners. Lists are Andy Ellis's baby for this one (I only completely knacker myself doing both the DBMM and all the FOG and FOG R for Warfare - once a year is enough. )

Current Riders are:-

FOG - 15mm - 800 points - Open

Peter Butler
Richard Butler
Robert Taylor
Richard Case
Wayne Dare
Graham Evans
Rich Love
Graham Briggs
Dave Handley
Chris Proudfoot
Paul Johnston
Lynda Fairhurst
Dave Morrison
Paul Robinson
Pete Reilly
Dave Ruddock
Darrell Pearce
Harrison Pearce
Gordon Jamieson
Martyn Simpson
David Bannister
Bob Amey
John Patrick
Paul Brandon
Jon Akers
Bruce Rollett
Dave Saunders
Phil Powell
Patrick Dale
Jason Broomer
Nik Sharp
Ian Stewart (payment confirmation awaited)
Chris Ager (payment confirmation awaited)
Richard Collins (I am told Richard's entry is on the way)

FOG - 25mm 650 points - Open

Peter Card
Nigel Emsen
Byron Emsen
Simon Eliott
Paul Westmore
Richard Jeffrey-Cooke
Peter Cross
Brian Holmes (floater FOG 15/ FOG 25/ DBMM, but we'll try to make sure he only has to play in one competition at a time - unlike his exploits at Warfare!)

34 in FOG 15, 8 in FOG 25. Numbers for FOG 15 are down a bit from last year's 45 (presumably things will pick up again when v.2 arrives), but overall numbers for the event are slightly up (currently expecting 116 as against last years 110), with FOG R having the biggest growth (16 this year, vs 10 last year).

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who has entered this year's Challenge. Numbers are well up overall this year, to the extent that we have filled all the tables. We cannot therefore take any more late entries (still waiting for payment from Richard Collins - but Mr Stewart has overpaid and I owe him a couple of beers-worth of refund  ).

I do, however, have a reserve waiting anxiously in the wings. With 120-odd entries, my experience is that usually something unexpected comes up for someone (hopefully nothing too drastic!!) and we get a drop-out or two over the last fortnight. I am not asking anyone to volunteer not to come!! However, if anyone does already know that they will not after all be able to make the event, please can you let me know?

Thank you all - I am looking forward to a great event!

Cheers,

Tim
