I am already an Objectivist, so I think taxes at these rates are no less than theft. But that isn't a proper discussion for this board. Go to www.rebirthofreason.com and I talk about philosophy there (using my real name).

Have you seen any of Leonard Peicoff's DVD recordings of his lectures? They're very interesting. But, this is o/t as you noted.

Canada and Europe's tax systems are dragging us into the abyss. So, for those who find the price of this game too high compared to the USA, you're talking to the wrong people. The solution lies not with Slitherine and Matrix, but with us idiots who keep voting these other idiots into office. :!:

Errr...because the VAT is different in each country??!!
The 39.99 euro is the European price, and no matter want country I picked in Europe the same tax (15%) was applied to it. Untill Stauffenberg posted something and I checked out Norway. Untill then, and at that moment I posted the price, I assumed that it was for the whole of Europe. This means that for Europe Norway and Switzerland pay 39.99 euro, and every other country in Europe pays 45.99 euro. So ok I'm sorry that I did not know that Norway and Switserland were the only two countries in Europe that didn't had to pay the additional 15%, you did not have to use rollyes for that.

Guess it will never get solved (unless a local publisher comes up), charging the price of 39.99 euro including VAT (what a fair price is and a price that is about the same as a pc game), then Norway and Switserland will get it for 34.77 euro. If they get it for 39.99 euro, every other country in Europe gets it for 45.99 euro. I wonder if Slitherine is actually selling many games in Europe then (apart from Norway and Switserland that get a fair price). Guess I'll have to wait for a local publisher, a price drop in a few years or a cracked version that finds it way on the internet...

@ happycat, you are part right Slitherine can't help it that it has to pay taxes. But it's a publishers job to keep prices fair. That's why I hope a local publisher can do the trick because both Matrixgames and Slitherine aren't doing a pretty good job as publisher for Europe (of course, it's not there place to publish so can't blame them, but it's still sad that they don't adjust the European price so it's fair again.)

For example, I can buy a game in Belgium (21% VAT), but if I check the internet I find the exact same price for the Netherlands (19% VAT), although taxes are different. How is this possible? The publisher adjust gameprices in both countries, so if a game costs 49.95 euro (including VAT) they charge 41,28 euro for it in Belgium and 41.97 euro in the Netherlands, this results that the same price including VAT applies to them. So a European publisher could ask 39.99 euro (which would be a fair price compared to other games in the European store), including VAT and they could adjust the price for each country so that no matter where you live in Europe, you pay the same price (for example 39.99 euro). This way it's fair to everybody and the price can be kept fair to. Now the price is fair in Norway and Switserland, but the price including VAT is too high for Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, ... when compared to other games.

Perhaps Akella can help me, however, CEAW is set to be released on 25/08 so it's still a month away. Not to mention that it's only on the Russian version of the website.

I think the price of this game ought to be much higher. I would like to pay $150 minimum. In any country.
