Flat scenery - laminated paper cutouts

Hello all,

I've been wargaming for many years, and after a few years of no wargaming I decided to get back into it. Having turfed all my old terrain(given away/sold/thrown out) years ago I needed some more. However I wanted to keep it simple, and hopefully not take up too much space so I went for a different approach. Using my laptop, some useful 3d environment rendering software, I created a pdf which I could take to my local stationary store to print out and laminate - perfect for wargaming on...

So here is a link to where I keep this pdf, along with a couple of screenshots.

I'm keen to make more of these if there is sufficient interest and give them away (they're very easy to make) - so send suggestions and I'll consider them.

Look very good. And very useful. Flat and easily portable terrain tends to just be felt with something thrown on. This is a big improvement on that.

Troops can stand on terrain features too so a big thumbs up from me. After spending the last 3 weeks painting buildings

I read in another forum that it is possible to print this files on the same surface as the "mouse mat" (I have no idea what is its name). That surface is water proof, resists more than usual mats and can be rolled. It is more resistant than paper and it can be cut with terrain pieces as the shown here. The price of the pinting was around 50€ for a 240 x 120 mat. In Sci Fi 28 mm they are using it very often

I think that for people playing tournaments could be an easy way of having a ready to play surface and quite nice looking for a reasonable amount of money.

Looks really good, but I'm curious about one practical detail.
Laminated paper is quite smooth in my experience, so how do you stop it sliding out of place during a game?

In one side it is smooth; in the other it is rough. Look at a mouse device mat and you will see what I mean. At the same time it is heavier than a paper. Some people use magnets for the moving scenery and a type of methalic net (very soft, I don't know how to describe it in English) to keep the parts in place. Then you put first this sheet of methalic net, then the mat and over it the "scenery" with ferrita magnets.

I use a bit of blue tack on the back of the laminated paper to stick it to the wargaming tabletop...which in my case is made of cork tiles (12" x 12") - also easily put away and readily available from the hardware store.

Very handy - maybe print them up and glue them to a light wooden base or a thin piece of plastic for durablity

These are great. Anyone know of any other resources like these available on the webs? I'm hoping for items that could translate directly into FoG terms: enclosed fields, vineyards, ancient villages, rough terrain, et cetera.

When I did this a few years ago, I got my local print shop to print them onto felt.
