Artillery supported by infantry

Post by switze01 »

Hi

Bit of an odd question but say if have light arty in the front of a pike/shot unit
Just in front of the pike say
Now if the arty is attacked effectively you are in melee with the unit behind
since they are effecively in the same place - can the shot fire at the same place
as the arty who are in front - thus gaining range advantages as they are 'really'
in that location .

My other question is this - the only advantage that pikes have in the later
pike/shot era during and infantry melee is the negative mod that med foot get
on their cohesion test when fighting Heavies . Since a pike/shot unit is 2/3 mediums
is it beats say an all shot unit will it still inflict that mod on the all shot unit ?

Yes, if you have a BG of foot supporting artillery they are regarded as being at the same place as the front of the artillery, so any that are not actually supporting them may shoot. Often this occurs where a 6 base Pike and Shot BG supports a 2 base artillery BG. I tendt to place the non-supporting foot level with the front of the artillery.

And also yes, if you have a mixed HF/MF BG fighting an all MF one, they will cause the -1 on the CT if the all MF BG loses.
