Re: DLC 42 Feedback
for stalingrad ruins, the soviets throw a half hearted assault....but for me at least, it really gets exciting only when you go for the final victory hex..
Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Well the idea for Stalingrad Ruins was that it is the normal path, so it's not meant to be crushingly difficult. As it is, Storming Stalingrad and Stalingrad Docks are already really brutal.
The other path, fleeing Stalingrad and then fighting at Tatsinskaya, that is really the HARD path.

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
I just finished my DLC 42 campaign... ugh if anyone thought Spoils of War on Manstein was bad, Tatsinskaya is much worse.
Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Your sick if you played that on Manstein.Kerensky wrote:I just finished my DLC 42 campaign... ugh if anyone thought Spoils of War on Manstein was bad, Tatsinskaya is much worse.
Re: DLC 42 Feedback
If I find some spare time, maybe I'll do an AAR or video AAR on it.

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
So I should flee Stalingrad if I want the biggest challenge? I had guessed the opposite given what happened historically! I'll restore back to the end of Stalingrad Docks and flee.
I had to settle for a Marginal Victory on Docks. I thought I was going to get Decisive by capturing Pavlov's House on turn 21 or 22 but freakin' Pavlov showed up with a massive sized SMG unit plus some friends and he and his buddies completely eliminated in a single turn my strength 12, 400+ experience Fallschirmjaeger unit with artillery support through sheer human wave attacks and I was forced to pull back and regroup. I've never seen them wipe out an entrenched, elite, overstrength unit with arty support like that. It was... ugly. My 4 star FJ! It was only my second or third non-recon core loss in the whole campaign but it was a doozy.

OK I finished 42 and have to say that I had a different experience than what you say.Kerensky wrote:Well the idea for Stalingrad Ruins was that it is the normal path, so it's not meant to be crushingly difficult. As it is, Storming Stalingrad and Stalingrad Docks are already really brutal.

For me Storming Stalingrad was the hardest (lost 2 or 3 experienced units for a DV) and I was on the verge of restarting as I was loosing hope of winning.
Docks was fairly balanced (DV with no loses), fleeing stalingrad was balanced (DV) but Tatsinskaya was actually easy (also DV). I never felt Im going to have any problems and slowly took ground. I did play Tatsinskaya a bit different than usual in that I didnt take any inf, only tanks, air and art.
Had some problems with prestige, especially in storming and a bit in docks, and finished the DLC with about 1700 left. I guess that might be a problem in 43 when I should be upgrading my army to Tigers and 43 inf.
Now waiting for 43

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
I also thought Fleeing Stalingrad was really easy; got a DV on like turn 10 or something. All it takes is running to the southwest corner of the map at full speed and crossing the river, where bridging engineers can make things trivial, or you can just fight across the river with enough arty support.
Haven't played Tatsinskaya yet.

*** Spoilers below***
I really enjoyed the 1942 DLC. The fights for Stalingrad were EPIC. Oddly I found he decisive victory path (Escape/Tatsinskaya) easier than the other path (Ruins/Kotelnikovo), probably because in Ruins I setup a perimeter defense thinking I'd get attacked from all sides. My only complaint would be with the briefings not giving a hint to new units becoming available. When I started Tatsinskaya, I got to about turn 11 when I found that the Tiger I was now available. I had deployed all my armor units so could not make good use of it. In my second run through, I held back 2 armor units, intending them for Tiger upgrades. I was then able to get 2 4star Tiger units into the fight about turn 12. It would have been nice if I'd had a hint in the briefing that some new units would be available and that I might want to hold some units in reserve to upgrade. Outside of that, Brilliant!!!!! Keep 'em coming!

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
I completed DLC 42 this weekend. I play on field marshal and it feels to be the right difficulty.
I had a lot of fun with the early defensive battles. They were wonderful.
I did something wrong during the Assault of Sevastopol. I only lost one core unit while getting a DV, but all of my units took an unusually severe beating. The Soviets just curb-stomped me senseless.
I was glad the next few maps were easy sailing. I needed to recoup from those earlier losses.
The Depot was lot of fun. I really appreciated fighting different equipment and the rewards were cool. I lost the two Shermans in Stalingrad, but I hope the SU sticks around a while.
Stalingrad and Docks was epic. My core is kind of infantry heavy to begin with so I did not have too much problems. I lost some core, but nothing significant. I also picked up a BA-64 and I'm unsure how. I will find a use for it.
I had a little bit of a disappointment in Stalingrad ruins. I thought it was going to be a bit harder, and the scenario required much more of a mobile defense than I was hoping. That was the only scenario of 42 I was not fond of. I will not redo or change paths though, because I gained 5 REALLY GOOD heroes during it and you just don't throw luck like that away.
The final scenario was the first time I felt my aux units were somewhat competent. I used them to great effect. Tigers becoming available only made me look forward to the next DLC even more.
Awesome and worth every penny. Thanks guys.

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
I found that the 42 DLC had the hardest and most interesting battles so far, with big maps and many units.
The italians inside Stalingrad was a little unhistoric, they where a long way from the city. The only non-german axis units inside the city during the attack phase was a croatian regiment. In the escape from Stalingrad scenario the auxilliaries should have been romanian units, the hungarians at that stage was at least 500 km to the northwest.
But besides that it was very entertaining, looking forward to the 43 DLC

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Of all the Axis Minor Nations, only the Italians have a decent roster of equipment though. They have tanks, anti-tank, self propelled artillery, fighters, and bombers.
Romanians and Hungarians have none of these (unless they borrow some captured equipment or something), so we went with Italians.

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Ok, but the Romainians had, at the time (1942) french Hotchkiss H35 and Renault R35 tanks and a few Pz35t in their armoured division, they also had their own produced IAR 80 fighter. The hungarians had their own produced "Turan" Type 40M tank, and both countrys fielded some decent artillery, both 10,5 and 15 cm.Kerensky wrote:Of all the Axis Minor Nations, only the Italians have a decent roster of equipment though. I hope this could be incorporated in the roster in the future

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Romanians never had Hotchkiss H35 and the R35 were in Romania at that time. At Stalingrad they had only Pz 35(t) and a few Panzer III and IV (ten of each). For the scenario involving breaking out of Stalingrad, the Romanian Pz35(t) unit definitely should be there. Also in Stalingrad ruins there should be some Romanian infantry and cavalry, as they were trapped in the encirclement together with the 6th Army.RichardL58 wrote: Ok, but the Romainians had, at the time (1942) french Hotchkiss H35 and Renault R35 tanks and a few Pz35t in their armoured division, they also had their own produced IAR 80 fighter. Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Sorry, mistook Hungary with RomaniaRomanians never had Hotchkiss H35

But when we talking Romanian equipment, which should be in a future game roster, did't Romania also use SM 79 Sparviero and Fiat BR 20 bombers?
Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Fiat BR.20 no, SM 79B yes.

Who`s fault is this really? Adding a couple more units to Romania and Hungary would have solved this issue and you would not have had to resort to such "solutions" as giving Romania ahistorical captured equipment(the Somua at Belgrade) and replacing nations on the map simply because of lack of adequate equipment in game. Using your logic btw, when you`ll get to the defensive actions in eastern Romania and then in Hungary you`ll definitely be going "with italians" again unless you manage to squeeze in some more units with a patch. Can`t wait to see the Bersaglieri defending Budapest.
He was actually referring to the lack of equipment those factions have in PzC, not historically. They lack tanks and aircraft and are very shallow in other classes of equipment too. Which naturally complicates things balance wise when you need to make a scenario that involve those factions. Hence the elegant solution with the italians.RichardL58 wrote: Ok, but the Romainians had, at the time (1942) french Hotchkiss H35 and Renault R35 tanks and a few Pz35t in their armoured division, they also had their own produced IAR 80 fighter. Me too, but I doubt it will happen. If they`ve decided against reinforcing these factions before the Stalingrad campaign DLC, when will there be better occasions to determine them to spend the time and money on more units for these nations?I hope this could be incorporated in the roster in the future

Re: DLC 42 Feedback
Agree with a lot of things here. So far this is much more enjoyable than DLC '41 and I'm only just beginning Nonoanninsky. Sevastopol Assault on FM was absolutely brutal and chewed up my core forces really bad. The relentless soviet forces really grind you down, thank god Voronzeh was a breeze I needed badly to recover
I still have nightmares playing the Stalingrad campaign in SPWAW fighting endless soviet infantry building to building after spending several scenarios just getting to Stalingrad. Can't wait to get there in this game.
