So the begining of the section says artillery can shoot at any within arc outside of short range and that enemy too close bit.
Then it goes on to say targets are picked in the following order. Closest first. (paraphrased.
I've been flipped on the right way to do this several times. Can Art pick or MUST it shoot at closer?
So at 18 MU range for Med art is a Keil.
At 15 MU rang for Med art is a Pike and Shot unit.
Neither is in front of the other.
So which is or can be the target?

Re: Artillery picking target at long range
Dan, the key words are the first paragraph part you quote in the first line of your post which actually reads 'An Artillery base, when more than 8MU' and then the rest of the 'artillery can shoot at any within arc outside of short range ' stuff (or words to that effect), plus 'Otherwise, a front rank based that shoots can only shoot as its priority target'. Page 107. The Otherwise applies to the when not more than 8MU etc.
So in your example quoted, it is the firing player's choice. Either can be the target.

But then priority order is down further in an entirely different sub section. That is not entirely irrelevant to what you cite. I TOTALLY see your reading. And started that way. But then got switched the other way and back and forth.

I agree priority order is further down the page but it ain't relevant as you are firing at a range where 'can only shoot at its priority target' does not apply.
Richard and Nik played it that way against me in one of the Beta tourneys and that is how everyone has played it in all my comp games (in each case Richard has been the umpire and this has not been appealed to my knowledge).

So is it not as clear as it could be or am I just challenged in my reading skills?timmy1 wrote: I agree priority order is further down the page but it ain't relevant as you are firing at a range where 'can only shoot at its priority target' does not apply.

Could a two base artillery BG shoot one base at the Keil the other base at the P/S BG or does the artillery BG have to shoot at the same target ?
Thanks

Nothing in the rules about bases in a BG having to shoot at the same target. All the rules refer to bases. You could shoot at both should you so desire. Would make your opponents life easier so I can't see him objecting...

I think you are just not reading it right.hazelbark wrote:So is it not as clear as it could be or am I just challenged in my reading skills?timmy1 wrote: I agree priority order is further down the page but it ain't relevant as you are firing at a range where 'can only shoot at its priority target' does not apply.

First paragraph - how artillery shoot at long range
Second paragraph - how everyone else shoots (using priority)
Later paragraphs - define priority

But the Later Paragraphs apparently refer only to the Second and not the First. Gotcha.footslogger wrote:I think you are just not reading it right.

I must admit that was how I played it at first. Then switched i forget who told me that. Now switching back.
