Ok I must be missing something, after looking over the forum im seeing people that get throught the DLC and end 42 playing at FM with 14,000 to 20,000 in Prestige?? Now if thats meant to be harder to play, how is it people are making so much in Prestige? I went through it on Col, ending 42 with about 4k in prestige.
With the ablility to buy and replace unit loses with ease with that much Prestige, how is that level of play harder? And how did you make so much, are cities worth so much more??

Field Marshal provides -50% experience relative to General, no other changes. No prestige bonus.
Those players are just really good at managing their prestige. They probably disband units to upgrade out of family, avoid reinforcing during battle as much as possible, and are very careful not to lose strength points on their overstrengthed units. Fighting with a lot of artillery helps too.
I have played the first 3 DLCs with -75% prestige, and won DV on every map. It just takes a lot of time to play carefully and having played the maps before (having spoiler information is massively helpful) to be able to do this.

Re: FM hard??
ok fair enough, so just good with their prestige managment then.
Re: FM hard??
Personally I take all the objectives and leave one key objective open right till the last turn, killing the units that respawn in the meantime.
In addition to getting more prestige (in scenarios where you get prestige for each turn) the units get more kills this way and thus more XP/heroes which helps in preventing damage and making the overall campaign much easier. In the end there is even danger that things are getting too easy when using a core force like this.
And the unit composition plays a fairly large part, too, using unhistoric/gamey core forces with lots of artillery and Stukas will make the game much easier as well.
While it is fun for some time to use such a min/max force in the longer run there is a large danger of the fun turning into boredom instead. If you are able to simply blast your way through any opposition without having to worry about tactics anymore then a turning point is reached IMO.
And finally, having played the map before is very helpfull, too

Re: FM hard??
A lot of artillery is the most helpful. I generally have a core of 20%-25% artillery, which works out to 6-7 for a core of 30.charonjr wrote: And the unit composition plays a fairly large part, too, using unhistoric/gamey core forces with lots of artillery and Stukas will make the game much easier as well.
I never try to farm kills from the AI. I just find that boring.
The DLCs are also plenty beatable using a historical core. For instance, a core containing Pak 36 and a mixture of Panzer I/Panzer II/Panzer III/Panzer IV in DLC 1940-1941 can do quite well as long as its not Manstein.
Re: FM hard??
Yup, sure it can be done with a (more) historic setup and farming kills IS boring, but we are talking easy mode here
I tend to use 10 artillery + 5 Stuka, so closer to 50% "artillery" which is is gamey, but efficient (unless the weather is bad for a number of turns - besides the protective fire that is another point for the artillery). I just like the flexibility the Stukas provide.

Re: FM hard??
It really does come down to prestige management.
1. Don't upgrade out of family if you don't have too. This means with tanks for instance that you go from PZ-38(t) to PZ-IV to Tiger / Panther.
2. Lots of artillery is key for protection and for reducing damage you take when you are attacking. Personally I run 3 150mm, 3 170mm, 1 captured 105mm, and 3 wurfrahmen 40s in my CORE at the end of DLC 42 and I had everything with me from the beginning except the wurfrahmen. 5 Stukas really help too (get them early and use them often).
3. I don't use elite upgrades until the Norway scenarios in DLC 39.
4. If one or two units gets really beat up I send them to the rear and only reinforce when the scenario is over.
5. Most people who are that good have played each map 2+ times and that REALLY helps. It isn't that you know where everything is but you have a good idea of at least the area that stuff is in.
I would argue that it is pretty hard on FM to rack up a lot of prestige you need to have a good balance between getting things done and being careful. But in the end it just comes down to how you like playing. It is a game after all.

Re: FM hard??
This is why I have always petitioned for higher artillery costs, for example 25%
