DLC 1942 got just released - but what is DLC 1943 EAST

Post by Longasc »

So DLC 1942 got released. I will buy and download today, after a scheduled backup and a special maintenance (computer, keyboard and monitor are dirty...).
Enjoy the city fighting, I lost most of my units in the final scenario. And that after I thought it can't get possibly worse than SMG Infantry! :)

But what is this?!

Panzer Corps Grand Campaign '43 East

I hope you notice the emphasis. :)

Scenario List
Kharkov43
Belogrod
Orel
Ponyri
Olkhovatka
Yakovlevo
Oboyan
Kursk Armory North
Kursk Armory South
Prokhorovka
Dnipropetrovs’k
Kremenchug
Kiev43

OK, this is clearly 1943 East, centered around the gigantic Kursk/Prokhorovka battel and featuring Kharkov and Kiev as well.
But EAST almost cries for the question why 1943 got this extra addition.

Will there be a 1943 WEST? This could be the first split in the DLC-campaign. Transfer your core from Stalingrad to Italy or go on in the East could be the decision.
July 1943 saw two major offensives, the Allied Invasion of Sicily and the Operation Zitadelle (Kursk) took place at the same time.

I'm just speculating, but I was expecting that for 44, and was vaguely spoken in other threads. The only surprise is to begin already in 43. I don't know if there will be first a 44 East instead of a 43 West.

I think we are going to see a 43 West (in the desert) and maybe even a 42 West. Pretty cool if you ask me as I would love to get some more action against the British.

day/month/year not month/day/year. ;-)

So 1943 East is, with reservation in case anything goes wrong, scheduled for the 7th of March 2012.

Maybe they do the whole East campaign 41-45 first, and then Africa 41-43, Italy 43 and West 44-45.

But if so I hope for some patches to integrate the earlier DLC:s. For example The Africa 41 core should be based on the saved 40 core, choices to jump between fronts, to Africa 42 after Moscow 41, or to the East after Africa 41, to Italy after Kursk (in the middle of DLC43) and so on.

Sounds nice, but I suspect that Afrika will not be included in this set of GC.

What makes you think that ? That would be bummer, if there were a whole GC that you could choose your places to fight like somebody suggested in the thread I be all for it. Have a feeling the progress is more first the entire eastern front and then western front. After that an expansion or similar for the Afrika corps due to hints from some devs in here. Then again you never know but I sure would be sad if it switches from eastern front to western front in 43 already.

Very curious to know how the devs are thinking of developing this as a whole GC to really though with2 -3 fronts interchanging.

The plan is to complete the East branch initially.

Which is only logical, since you can work with the assets and enemy and the setting and bring it to a nice conclusion, and then offer the alternative branch later on. Switching back and forth between fronts during the development would be a mistake. Especially since the historical research would have to jump around europe constantly also. Better to finalize one thing and then fully concentrate on the next one.

Good choice!
