I enjoy the army. The one drawback is the lack of mobility. the knights are undrilled and the foot is heavy, so plodding. On the other hand, adding a German Medieval Fuedal ally from Lost Scrolls gives you access to armored defensive speamen and independent foot crossbows plus drilled Cav. A Danish ally with any of the German lists in Lost scrolls is also a possibility. While many people frown on light artillery, sandwiching a BG of LArt between two BGs of mixed select levy can be very intimidating to anyone in front of you. Go for lots of terrain if possible to channel the enemy.

To expand. It depends what type of games you are going to play. It'll be fine for historical encounters. And it'll be good against other 'stand up and fight' late medieval armies. Those mixed units will be good value against knights, particularly.dugroz wrote:Thanks, everyone, for the verification.

grahambriggs (and others): can you expand on that statement? I guess I'd like to know if there is a glaring weakness in the Danish army before I commit to making them my "main" army.
I've mainly just based my choice on what models I have and what sounds fun, I wanted a northern/western European army that can have multiple units of heavy knights and decent infantry. I don't love the fact that the only light foot available is handgunners, and no light horse, but I'm not a hit-and-run type player anyway.
Am I setting myself up for constant disaster?
But out of period there will be issues. There's not much 'filler' so the army will have a low break point. It's quite a slow, unwieldy army (HF, knights, etc). It only has one BG of skirmishers. So it will be vulnerable to armies that can pull it apart with skirmishers and then hit it hard at a weak spot. If you used it in a medieval competition, I suspect you might in time be frustrated that other armies can dance around it (Mongol, Magyars, etc) without you being able to land a solid blow.

BTW the mixed units will be a little more useful against skirmishers (shooting back and all).

Hi
I have one of these, but am not what you might call a top tier player....actually more a crap tier player. I tend to never have enough time to paint an army, and playing...well that's a space time problem, particularly with commitment to a new business....
So that's me and here's my experience:
I really like the army. I also have a Macedonian army which I really like but i can't really play. My Danish army has had much more positive outcomes.
I play at 650 points on a 5 by 3 table, so that may take away some of the slowness problems.
You can have I think up to 12 bases of german pike, and this gives a bit of punch against those units that aren't so good for the select levy. With the levy on its flanks you can make a pretty good box formation.
I have 2 BG's of cav Xbow armoured. I am not that good , but a good player could probably get these onto the same target as the select levy for 6 to 7 shooting dice.
These are you're skirmishers, not as handy as light horse, but a lot tougher.
I find that the x bow on the select levy doesn't hit much, but the threat of it and the chance of combining it with other units makes them quite useful. The down side as stated on other posts is quite limited and if you are down 2 bases against steady pike or spear, then the chances are that you would lose that fight even if they were all H weapon.
