Urgent Feature Request

Post by Kerensky »

Panzer Corps needs an in game, real time clock.

I just tabbed out.... apparently it's 5:47AM.
Even after this long, game still has that 'just one more scenario' feeling. ;)

BTW before any serious discussion starts this isn't really a serious thread, we know there are lots of other urgent features we need before we need an in game clock.

For a scenario developer or mod developer and also being a PzC gamer, time assumes its relative form. Have you ever heard about the dilation of time when travelling near the speed of light?
The same here. The real world just uses a different clock from ours. :P

The solution is, after you've done your move and you reckon it's time for bed, DON'T click that "End Turn" button, no matter how much its siren call lures you to do so... :P

I also was up til 5:00 am.
Was playing one of the Stalingrad scenarios. And also doing some turns in multipalyer online. Never realized how easy it is to start games against human opponents. So used to AI that I'm really getting my butt kicked in most.
Love this and this forum and our community. I'm signed up on BoardGameGeek.com and of course that means role playing geek and videogame geek. I created the listings for the 4 DLC's and uploaded the cover images and rated them 9.5 same with the base game that was already in the system. The listings could use more pictures and comments. We need to spread the news ( This game rocks and the forum is kick xxx )

How about a clock that times how long you've been playing and gives a stopwatch so you can see how long it takes you to finish each turn. I'll agree time does speed up when playing PC.

Have you ever noticed how much fun dogs have most of the time if they are healthy? Are you healthy or enjoying decent good health and feeling good? If you are, take a lesson from the dogs. Don't worry about a clock, what day, what time it is or even if the sun is going to come up. It always does and they know it will. A DOG ALWAYS KNOWS WHAT TIME IT IS............AND IT IS NOW.
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

I need to put a clock in plain view right next to the computer.

I had yesterday off work and I was happy to have a large block of time to devote to the game. I started Storming Stalingrad. That night my wife and son got home and I was still in front of the computer. Lost all track of time. I had forgotten to shower, eat, do some minor chores, or do anything else that day.

I found your problem. That's exactly where I was when I caught myself at 5 AM the other night.
To be fair, people have been asking for an epic Stalingrad battle since DLC 1939 Warsaw, even before that in the stock campaign actually, so we had to deliver on that.

What's that old adage, be careful what you wish for?

Yip, totally agree with the time dilation comments here. Have spent half the night playing and then gone to bed still thinking about how to assult the next position! Spent 15 hrs straight last Saturday playing this. It is like a drug, you just can't stop.

Hats off to the developers in creating a truelt addictive game.

Was going to post on this subject, but then found this thread which sums up my experiences perfectly. Last night was a case in point. Got home from work, walked the dog, wolfed down tea which I'd prepared the day before, sit in front of computer. Several DLC'42 scenarios later the wife comes in from work, apologising because she was late, it was half past midnight...I hadnt moved for over 6 hours!

Sat here in work trying to concentrate, having had not enough sleep and still working out my next moves for tonight (could be messy, onto Stalingrad!).

I didn't eat a full meal today... but I did manage to play quite a few scenarios worth of DLC 1943 East though! Man... did I really make it THAT hard?
I've had to settle for a minor victory at Orel... I never have to settle for minor victories! :(

The trouble is it is endless. I've played all the way through on easy level, now playing all the way through on the third level, by the time I've finished they'll either be a new DLC or I'll be going all the way through on the next hardest level. That is another thing, on the DLC'43 I couldnt get decisive victory to get me through to the armouries, so they need replaying.

It is a long time since a PC game has totally immersed me like this.

Believe it or not, I addressed this problem by installing "Kidswatch," a parental time-control program that you can use to set program-specific time limits, including times of day during which the game can be played. I have found this most useful and well worth the modest money spent to buy the program. Yes, you can undo your restrictions, but in the heat of the moment it is a pain in the ass, and the interruption alone is enough to make me come to my senses--it really IS time to go to bed!
