Game 1: Later Imperial Austrian vs. Caroline Imperialist
My opponent deployed three early tercios, one keil, two Bgs of arquebushiers, two Bgs of two medium artillery, one of light foot, one of reiters and one of light horse.
I deployed my horse in the flanks and detached arquebushiers from the late tercios, combining them. The arquebushiers had to take the broken terrain on my left, my keils had to delay his keil and tercios, and my horse had to attack. The light foot had to block his artillery fire.
Austrians on the left, spanish on the right.
I advance on both flanks. My light infantry runs towards his unprotected artillery, while my artillery punishes his right flank tercio.
Tryin to outmaneuver an early tercio...
The light foot succesfully avoids the artillery bombardment and gets dangerously closer to the enemy batteries, while the tercio tries to protect them on time.
But it isn´t fast enough and both batteries are captured! Not for long, as the tercio retake them, but now they won´t be as effective.
My combined late tercios get close to their harquebusiers in open terrain, while I try to outflank the ones in terrain. I expect to finish them in short time!
We keep maneuvering on the right.
Finally the great blocks of infantry are about to clash. His leftmost tercio keep away two of my mounted groups, but his reiters are in great danger as they have no more room to run away.
On the terrain I am not able to flank the enemy and frontal combat follows. Having two groups and a general I am winning, but not as fast as I had planned.
Final moments of the reiters...
My keils suffer form his infantry but hold, while my mounted groups get away from the tercio.
On my left, artillery fire supported by reiters destroy the tercio! His flank is open and I recapture the artillery batteries. His terrain harquebusiers are destroyed too, but so is my late tercio.
Night comes and the armies retire. I had broken a tercio (GBG), the reiters, harquebusiers and both batteries of artillery, 12 out of 14. I had lost the late tercio, 2 out of 12. Good start!
And, to recover forces... lunch! Spanish style
