Battle of Tinchebrai 1106

EDIT: version 1 now available

What got me looking at this battle was a "historical whodunnit" written by Paul Doherty called "The Death of the Red King" (2006) that I have just finished reading. It is an investigation ("fact" +"fiction" = "faction") into the events surrounding the death of King William Rufus (ruled in England 1087-1100) in a hunting incident in the New Forest and their aftermath. The story is told by Eadmer, a friend of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Anselm. It is highly recommended.

There is a version of the battle already in the FOG roster that looks OK, although it does lack some historical detail (various commanders and regional contingents present at the battle are known to us) and there are aspects of the battle that I have represented quite differently.

Hey Pete , have you ever read "The Paladin" by Shipway?
Good historical yarn that ends with the "hunting accident" ( the story is told thru the eyes of a Norman Knight)

No, I hadn't heard of him until today, TGM. I have found a Wikipedia entry for Shipway . . .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Shipway

. . . and I had a look on Amazon, but his books are out of print and extremely rare. Prices are from about £30-00 per book. The Norman knight is Sir Walter Tirrel who, it is generally believed, accidentally killed William Rufus while hunting. Paul Doherty argues something completely different, however.

Version 1 now available at the top of the thread. A quite interesting battle this one largely because knights were being dismounted as early as this (1106) to fight in a battle. This happened in other battles too e.g. Alencon in 1118 and Bourgtheroulde in 1124.

As always, any suggestions for improvement are most welcome.
