Spotting range for planes

Post by Lut »

Short question.

why do have the fighters a spotting range of 2 but the SB only 1?

a He111 with a cockpit made - more or less - completly from glass... 3 guys (pilot, copilot, bombardier) sitting in front with perfect view... slow (compared to fighter) speed... should these SB not have a spotting range of 2 instead of the fighters?

My guess is that generally speaking they fly so high you wouldn't be able to see much on the ground.

And also level bomber fly along pre assigned paths straight to their objectives while fighters and smaller bombers may roam an wider area searching for their targets.

It is a good idea. I have seen it batted around the forums before but still hasn't been done yet. Would be a nice addition.

Spotter planes

Post by VonHob »

I agree, spotter planes like the little Fiesler Storch would be very nice to have. Basically no armament, small defence but a lot of range and spotting range. Also give them the ability to land outside an airstrip, since I believe that they were capable of this.

One of the 41 Scenarios kind of touches on this as you get I think its 3 Dorniers that have no ammo, but can fly about reconing for your forces. If they end at a friendly airfield they arm up and become bombers. It was a nice touch and i agree it would be great to be able to buy air recon for our core armies.

Download the AA and AT MOD and you will have recon planes.

This recon plane is a good idea and an element of the game that should be added IMO. The planes like any other category progressed in time. From the beginning where Heinkel 45's and 46's were upgraded to Henschel 126's then I believe it was the Heinkel 123's if I'm not mistaken. Strategic recon started out with Heinkel 70's and Junkers 86's then moved onto Ju88's and finally ended with the jet Arado's that no allied plane including the Brits could catch.
