Suggestion for forum

Post by impar »

This is what I see when I open several tabs on Firefox:
Image
Can you guys remove the "Slitherine :: View topic -" so that we can see immediately the name of the thread that is open in each tab?

That's Chrome. Internet Explorer 9 displays the tabs the same way.

I suggest trying Chrome, it's a wonderful browser.
Firefox might need you to configure something, I know that Firefox can open the tabs like that, too.

My FireFox 8.0 shows topic names in the tabs too. I don't think I configured anything.

Actually, on my home Firefox (now) it seems fixed. The screenshot was taken from my work Firefox (this morning).
Will have to check it again at work.

As for Chrome being a wonderful browser, it is, but it cant handle my browsing (slowdowns and crashes) and isnt as easily customized as Firefox. IE9 is even worse and not available in XP (work PC).

PS:
Of course, you guys had to ninja-fix it... :?

Well, with the remodelation, this problem appeared again.
Also, the traditional place for where the avatars are located is at the left of the screen, not at the right.

I agree. Overall, I don't think this overhaul did anything good for forums appearance. Yeah-yeah, the grass was greener in the days gone, the sun was brighter and our girls were definitely younger and all that.

I might get used to the new style but the avatars to the right will take some time to get used to.

How can I make it that they appear on the left side?

iainmcneil wrote:The forum upgrade was planned but had to be rushed through because the old software just couldn't cope any more with the traffic. The old software was much slower at databse queries etc. We've not had time to do the design work we would have liked so expect tweaks once we get it all up and running. There may also be glitches that need to be fixed which we'll do as we go btu at least its up and running. This morning everything was just dead!

The new forum has a host of new features too which I think you'll love :)
But, yes I too would like the avatars on the left, please.

Regarding avatars, I agree with everyone above -- I am used to seeing the avatars on the left of the message, not the right. Could this be made into an option on the user control panel?

An option would be nice, as most people are probably used to having the avatars on the left.

Appart from the avatars on the right side, I'd also sharpen the contrast between the quote and the proper post content. In general it is hard for me to distinguish now one post from another. There should be some clear border lines between them.

The design is very much work in progress so all feedback welcome but try and keep it all in one place or we'll never find it all :)

I would like to see a greater contrast between posts. My eyes are getting old, perhaps a stronger more distinguishing shades.
