DLC 42 Feedback

Hi,

I just played untill the second Caucasus scenario and still enjoy it a lot - the first two scenarios are extremly challenging (I play on FM) due to lack of Prestige - honestly you guys just wanted to burn some Prestige, right?

It is surely true to the real circumstances of the German army in Winter 41 - early 42 - I enjoy it a lot and love to see my core grow to 4**** ;-)

It is getting quite more relaxed now - I guess Stalingrad will move up the challenge again - thanks for this great DLC also focussing on the East is true to history as this was by far the biggest challenge for the German army - am excited for the next DLC ;-)

I hope you add also Nort Africa and the West in the big campaign ;-)

Always happy to hear some feedback. :D

And yes, 1942 can start out pretty rough (Vitebsk pincer, Kharkov counterattack, Sevastopol assault), but there is a recoup period of a few scenarios after wards. Of course, then comes Stalingrad, and for the truly brave souls, the hard path AFTER Stalingrad ending with Tatsinskaya will really test your mettle, especially on the highest difficulty settings!

I just restarted from 1939.
Again on Field Marshal, but this time I will not force getting SE units.
(I still hope that one day there will be a different system how they get awarded rather than random chance)

It was the mentioned Tatsinskaya scenario that convinced me NOT to start this campaign on Manstein.
Take this as a warning and upgrade your airforce, otherwise you will lose more units than in Stalingrad.
I lost more units there than in the entire campaign.

I hope you are now properly motivated to march to your death. :roll:

I just finished Vitebsk and Kharkov on FM. Lots of FUN!! Love the onslaught of soviets. Keep 'em coming!!

We've been hearing people's desire for Stalingrad ever since the first urban battle for Warsaw showed up in DLC 1939. :)
We did our best not to disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to do this in the Stalingrad Docks scenario.

You get the chance to do this, bombing Soviets as they move their reinforcements across the Volga:

It was nice being the one attacking transports for a change, instead of always having your transports bombed (Sealion and USA East Coast)

I still think you need commisars who can reduce a Soviet unit by one or two steps to simulate elimination of those who are of questionable loyalty or were chosen as "inspiration to fight" for the rest of the unit :wink:

Perhaps some day if an Allied Corps variant ever gets done

You think you know what urban combat is like? Moscow was just an appetizer for Stalingrad. You won't leave unscathed.

The Soviet SMG infantry type was specifically created for this sort of combat. An unusual unit with poor ground defense, high attack, low initiative, high close defense. :twisted:

I highly recommend using the Panzer IIIN and StuH42 against these new adversaries. ;)

I realize the Brumbar is not a Panzer Corps official icon, but there is one for the game and it is available. They were at Stalingrad in reality. That situation is what they were designed for, total destruction of structures with people in them.
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

The Brummbärs were operational since the second half of 1943 really

They used some kind of a "Brummbär's ancestor" there (unclear), but only a few of these were produced:

You could purchase it in the Panzer Gerneral 2 expasion :wink:

That unit existed in Panzer General 1 stock equipment too. SIG 33 if I remember correctly.

I've only played through Vitebsk and was really happy. Lots of armor and it was aggressive. The other thing I liked was that the AI actually bought KVs instead of worthless light tanks and recon units in the middle of the scenario.

You really need to have your thinking cap on with Stalingrad. Those Soviet SMG infantry are deadly.

That opening battle was a hard nut to beat. End 41, nice core built, then get tossed into that madness! But it was a nice change, and very fun to play. As was said above, first few in 42 test you.

Vitebsk made me cry. I deployed my lovely army thinking that all those rivers would really aid my defence. Then the second I end the deployment phase, the entire map turns white and Russian armour starts pouring across the frozen rivers. :shock: That's a cruel way to start the campaign. I'm sure things will get better, however, and I'll be able to enjoy a nice relaxing break when I reach Stalingrad. :)

About that... Is this feature on purpose? I mean the fact that you are presented with a "clean" summer map when you deploy and then(the same day basically) when you start the first turn you find out you`re down deep in snow/mud? Also, the radar map doesn`t seem to show the atmospheric conditions as far as I can see. It`s green no matter if the map is actually covered in snow.

Thats something that could be added to the pre-battle briefings, a two day weather forecast. So you know going in what to expect. Snowing, ground snow covered/frozen, mud, etc would be nice to know.
