Secondary nations/units in scenarios questions

Post by bebro »

Those who edit scns will know you can place units in the editor for nations not assigned to a scenario, then choose their flag and side via the unit options. You can even give them "foreign" equipment that way.

Has anyone experience with this? I'd like to know:

1. What happens if such a unit takes a city - which flag does it get? Say you have primary A, B nation for axis, allies. You place a unit and set its flag to nation C, and determine whether this is for axis or allies.

If that unit takes a city, does it get flag C (determines what to puchase, I guess)? So in this way you could still arrive to buy nation C units, even if C is not pre-defined for that scn?

2. If nation C is not assigned to the scenario in the scn params, will an airfield taken by a C unit still be useable for the side C belongs too (but is not defined explicitly for)?

3. Are there any negative side-effects known from cross-giving "foreign" equipment as described above?

I hope that's not worded too confusing, thing is some things here aren't quite clear to me yet. If noone knows I'll try to test this myself, but maybe someone has already found it out :)

To avoid problems it is better to assign nation C in the nation list either in column axis or allies. If it is not assigned, you will not be able to purchase anything.
1)Yes. You cannot make a purchase for nation C if auxiliary units=0.
2) That i haven't tried, since i always assign every nation present in the scenario in the nation list
3) No. You can place any equipment on the map and assign it to any nation defined in that scenario. Althou there might be an esthetic unbalance for example if you give the vanilla IS-2 to Slovakia.

If you need to know more, let me know.

Thx very much.

I'll test for the airfield issue myself, and post the results if I find something

The MP scenario Bersaglieri and the Bear has a kind of representation of this. There are German units on the map but no German flags so no new German units can be bought *unless* you let the Russians take a flag and then re-take it with a German unit (and wait the 2 turns). My opponent did that and was able to buy an extra Tiger which made a huge difference. Hope this is not too OT. :)
