With the Russian and Japanese icons now available thanks to so many generous and talented members, I think this would be a wonderful mod.

It is realistic in a historical context as well. Russia invaded Manchuria after declaring war on Japan very late in the war so that Stalin could get a grip on part of China, Korea and whatever else his tanks could roll over. He had been prodded by the British, Aussies and the USA to do this for some time after the victory in Europe. He did not need much to get him started and of course he had forgotten the friendly assurances Japan had given him in 1941 that his Eastern Borders with China were safe from invasion AND that they would not declare war on Russia as they had Great Britain and America.

The Soviets attacked with tremendously superior strength (2:1 or more) in men and armor, artillery and airplanes. The Japanese had a standing army of approximately 1 million soldiers, sailors and airmen in Manchuria and Northern China. These troops were fresh, rested and well supplied having sat out the worst part of the war in that area. They were run over like a bunch of road kill. Stalin has his way with them and continued rolling the unstoppable Russian juggernaut into Northwestern China even several days after the Peace Armistice was signed on the deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. He only stopped when the other allies raised hell with him for not stopping! But of course it didn't matter to Stalin or Mao who he was trying to aid as well. He did get the northern half of Korea, Manchuria, Mongolia and a large chunk of China under his control. And who knows what he was thinking after bearing witness to the atomic bombs dropped on Japan so recently.

I didn't manage to put the whole briefing in the screenshot. The heading is the date of the mission which is in this case July 29th, 1938 .
What you described here might be somewhere at the end of the campaign.

I really would like to see a long British campaign, starting in Norway or France and then to Greece, Crete, Africa, Italy, Normandy all the way to Berlin.

And some short scenario where I can hunt and sink the Bismarck!

Nice idea :)

And do I understand it right - you'll start with the Khasan Lake incident, then it turns into a USSR vs. Japan war? I think that would make a cool campaign. :)

There will be more Japanese units available later, but of course I need a while for doing them.

I can't disappoint the GTPG players, so i will first "finish" that project and do the updates.

So anytime is a good time to make it official. I will call this project "Red Fury".
A possible scenario list: training scenario, Lake Khasan, Khalkhin Gol, Lvov, Viipuri, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Besserabia (go go Dragos ;) ). Guessing the rest is not so difficult. And any ideas are welcome.

Also, quite some time ago there was a post (either here or on matrix) that presented russian medals and heroes but i cannot seem to find it anymore.

Yes, indeed, a great idea nikivdd! Lots of potential for a long war. Just imagine...................A kamakazi charge running head on into a conscript charge with the NKVD troop backers behind them! Ourrah/Banzai!!!!!!!!!!!

This type of campaign also lends itself to incorporating the use of armored trains, gunboats on rivers and lakes, Chinese Communist troops, etc. And don't forget the Japanese Navy and ground troops kicked Russia's *ss a generation earlier in the century. A great humiliation for the Czar.

There was a thread about a Chinese campaign with a number of icons on the forum a while back. The terrain tiles were different and I didn't like the rice paddy tiles, but the rest might be useful.

Given a choice of moonshine Vodka and Sake, I will take the Vodka EVERY time.

ABMongo,

I know what you mean, but I knew and still know some Olgas (common name in Ukraine and Russian) that would smoke Miss America right off the stage in hotness. They usually go by Olya if they consider you a "friend". UDACHI!
