Just a few piccies from Jim Gibson's and my games at Usk using Later Imperial Austrians 1590.

Game 1 vs Tim Porter and Simo (!) Leroy Mayer's French Huguenots (featuring Swiss Keils!)

The Huguenots did a flank march with their Ally General taking their 3 best cavalry units (Cuiraissiers).Much to our amusement and Simon's and Tim's agony, their flank march arrival dice were consistently poor and the ally general didn't turn up.

Jim, in a moment of tactical brilliance inspired by Lucan's charge at Balaclava, charged the French guns (with the same result!). The surviving superior cuirrassiers hit Tim's Reiters supported by Commanded shot and were duly routed as well. However Tim's pursuit with the reiters into The supporting Tercio resulted in 3 French units being routed.

When the Keils hit they were unstoppable!! We even hit one Keil in the flank (not a Flank attack) with 2 cavalry regiments, killed the Swiss general and still they rolled over our superior later Tercio!! Scaary

Games 2 and 3 vs Paddy/Dave and then Andy/Keith's Italian Wars French

Both French armies featured 2 BG's of 16 base Elite Swiss Keils, 2 BG's of Superior Fully armoured Gendarmes and heavy guns!! What followed in both games was either 3 hours of brillantly executed tactical manoevring with the Austrians not prepared to attack the Keils frontally and the Keils not prepared to advance so the Austrian cavalry would swoop around the flanks and take them in the rear or 3 hours of terminal boredom!!! Minimal losses - only 6 elements lost to artillery in both games and 10-10 draws but here's a nice picture of the scary Keils and guns!!

Game 4 vs Simon Clark and Simon Green's Ikko Ikki

A cracking game against some beautifully painted figures (there were 'undreds of em and apart from the mob they were all SUPERIOR!!).

The Austrian Cavalry on the left under Jim's command, proved unstoppable with one Cuirassier unit taking out 4 units of bow, arquebus, mob and camp.

However the decisive blow was struck by an average tercio supported by an average reiter unit under my command who managed to take out the crucial Ikko Ikki unit despite being assailed by 2 other units of superior armoured HW!!

A great weekend

I enjoyed our game too Don. When you deployed 9 BGs of mounted I was resigned to a shoeing. You gave us some hope, only to dash it in the end :D

Seeing your own army the other side of the table is always unusual! I'm just typing up my own report for the blog right now.

There is some Ikko Ikki goodness there already
